The Windows Phone 8-running Ativ S is yet to be released, but Samsung is already starting to warm up for the launch.
The Ativ S should go on sale some time this month, but Samsung is yet to confirm the first countries to get its WP8 smartphone. That probably won’t take long as the company has already started its marketing campaign on the device. Two newly uploaded videos demonstrate pretty much everything the Ativ S can tempt you with. HTC’s Butterfly, the droid with the 5″ 1080p screen, started off in Japan, moved to the US and has now finally gone international. It keeps the same cool specs as the country-specific versions, including the high-res S-LCD3 and the Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset.
But instead of telling you about it, it’s easier to show it with this video ad for the HTC Butterfly. Read more »

The Google Nexus 4 is a much sought after phone, but we finally managed to secure a review unit. As usual, we’re going to take it for a quick spin in front of our camera before we get to writing our review.
While the quad-core Krait processor and the 4.7″ WXGA screen are great, we have to admit we spent quite a while just playing with the back. Read more »

Last year in December we reported about the #DroidRage trend that Microsoft started on Twitter, asking Android users their horror stories about using their phones and the people with the best stories would get a free Windows Phone 7 device.
This year, they are back again with the same hashtag, asking Android users for their best/worst Android malware horror stories. They haven’t exactly mentioned what prize the winners will be getting, only referring to it as a ‘get well present’ but it’s likely that it will be a Windows Phone again this year. Read more »
The Nokia Lumia 920 brings big innovations in mobile tech with its PureMotion HD+ display and optically stabilized Carl Zeiss camera lens, but what about the battery? It’s a 2000mAh unit – more or less on the same level as the Android flagships and the biggest Nokia has put in a smartphone.

The 3100mAh battery unit of the Samsung Galaxy Note II already propelled it to an impressive endurance rating in our battery test. I do however, reckon that there might be some users out there who would appreciate some extra juice at their disposal – just in case they need to jump start their car in a cold winter morning. Mugen Power’s humongous 6400mAh battery is aiming at those Galaxy Note II owners.
The laptop worthy battery unit is scheduled to ship on December 21, priced at a hair less than $100. Read more »
Everyone is talking about how fast the 4G LTE data speeds are but most people seem to have forgotten that 4G was supposed to bring a new VoIP-based calling to replace the old circuit-switched 2G and 3G systems. So, why isn’t Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) here yet? The answer seems to be battery life.
In the US, one carrier does support VoLTE and Spirent-Metrico ran tests comparing it to good ol’ CDMA. Read more »

The CyanogenMod team has been teasing version 10.1 (that’s based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean) for various devices with just screenshots, but Nexus 4 users can now actually grab a nightly release of the ROM and take it for a spin.

Sailfish OS is the big hope of MeeGo fans everywhere. Jolla, the people behind Sailfish, showed off their creative new UI about a week ago and how it takes MeeGo’s heavily swipe-based interface even further. But the short video was not enough for all the MeeGo enthusiasts out there, so Jolla’s CEO, Marc Dillon, took the time to answer some user questions.
Mr. Dillon demos the things that are working on a Sailfish-running phone, including how many apps the UI can handle at one, landscape mode, going between app and homescreen, and more. Read more »
