A few days ago a guy made a video showing him dipping his OnePlus One in shallow water for a few seconds, after which he immediately concluded that the phone is waterproof and the internet simply chose to believe him, as it is ought to.

One of the most noteworthy features of the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is its beefy 3,990 mAh battery. The Chinese manufacturer boasts that the phablet has battery big enough to charge other phones too via a dedicated cable.

There is no doubt that Angry Birds is to Rovio what Mario is to Nintendo and Sonic is to SEGA. The company has tried to dabble with other IPs in the past but hasn’t had the same level of success so it keeps going back to the Angry Birds well.

After countless Angry Birds games based on the same original formula, Rovio has tried to diversify it a bit recently, starting with Angry Birds Go, which was a kart racing game (*cough* Mario Kart *cough* Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing *cough*). The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 were announced at the Premiere event a couple of days ago. They’ve been up for pre-order in the US since yesterday, and now it’s the UK’s turn.

Starting today, you can pre-order the tablets at PC World, and they’re both expected to start shipping on July 4. They will become available in-store the following day, if what a tipster told Android Central is accurate. Read more »

Google Maps now joins the Android apps list with over 1 billion downloads, following Gmail which founded the club a month ago.

Maps has always been one of the most successful Android apps and the 1 billion downloads mark represents unique accounts that have downloaded the app (multiple downloads from one account are counted as 1). The LG G3 is the first mainstream smartphone to out a smartphone with a QHD display, and as such is the first major manufacturer to have to deal with the extra battery load required to power such a robust screen.

LG has thrown in a 3000mAh battery to power the device, and while that sounds pretty great it’s unclear if it will be enough to make the G3 a battery life king. Read more »

Firefox OS is being ushered in as a low-cost, non-resource hungry smartphone OS, but the architecture of the operating system does have some benefits that could extend to other platforms.

Firefox OS’ apps are basically web applications, that are mostly built-on HTML5 and Jaca Script, so they can be used both on the phone and in a phone’s browser. Because of this, the apps run pretty much natively on Android phones. Hit the jump to learn more. Read more »

Samsung unleashed the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Tab S 8.4 last night and has now uploaded the promo videos for both on YouTube.

In addition there’s also a brief hands-on video of the slates in action from New York city that touches on a lot of common ground with the promo video, bragging about the superior Super AMOLED technology behind those gorgeous displays, the many new software features like Multi Window with drag and drop, Samsung’s Paper Garden (debuting on the Galaxy Tab S), the fingerprint scanner (first on a tablet), IR blaster and more. DxOMark has finished the long process of evaluating the Samsung Galaxy S5 camera and has given it the highest score of any smartphone to date, 79/100, though it has to share this spot with the Sony Xperia Z2. That said, the Galaxy S5 records the best video yet beating the Xperia by a comfortable margin.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 got an 80/100 score for still photography. It was commended for very good Exposure, White balance and Color rendering in good light. Read more »
