The Android version of the Google Search application has been updated and improves upon the Google Now functionality on Jelly Bean devices. There are some new cards that provide you with even more information. For example, Google Now will tell you about events nearby your location or provide suggestions to help with your research (not sure how this works).

There are some functionalities that have been borrowed from iOS, such as the Passbook like ability to automatically pull up boarding passes from your Gmail to be scanned when you reach the airport and the Siri like ability to post status messages on Google+ using just your voice. Read more »

Have you had problems touching a Nexus 4? No, I don’t mean getting your hands on one (which can be a challenge) but problems with the touch sensitivity of the screen. Users have complained about it and if it’s bugging you too, now there’s a fix you can try.

Samsung opened its first Samsung Mobile Store in Paris, France on December 1. It’s dedicated to mobile devices only and offers a similar experience and support as the Apple’s Retail Stores.

Last year in December we reported about the #DroidRage trend that Microsoft started on Twitter, asking Android users their horror stories about using their phones and the people with the best stories would get a free Windows Phone 7 device.

This year, they are back again with the same hashtag, asking Android users for their best/worst Android malware horror stories. They haven’t exactly mentioned what prize the winners will be getting, only referring to it as a ‘get well present’ but it’s likely that it will be a Windows Phone again this year. Read more »

Google has such a huge presence on the web that it was only logical for it to make its own browser – and Chrome was born. Recently, Chrome has been expanding its reach to mobile territory but growth has been slowed by its requirements – unlike the stock Android browser, Chrome runs only on Android 4.0 and above (and 2.3 Gingerbread still holds over half the market).

According to Net Marketshare‘s numbers, Chrome is the browser of choice on 4.03% of Android devices. Those Nexus devices that come with Chrome only probably helped push the numbers up. Read more »

Toshiba has unveiled a new 10 inch tablet, called the Excite 10 SE, aimed at the mid-range tablet market.

In terms of size and weight, the Excite 10 SE is almost identical to the Google Nexus 10 – and runs Android 4.1 to boot. Read more »

Facebook brought a major update for its Messenger client, which helped expand its reach. Until today the app had only one use – chats between online Facebook friends. Now it no longer requires you to have a Facebook account.

Basically the new Messenger wants a piece from the WhatsApp and the native SMS clients’ share. It allows users to send messages to whoever is in their phonebooks and does not require any social log-in. Read more »

Android’s previously leaked, long overdue Gmail update has landed on devices, running Android 4.0 and up. Users of such devices can freshen up their native email clients from the Google Play store.

The Google employee Manu Cornet confirmed the name of the next Android (5.0) version – Key Lime Pie. He did this in a pretty funny way – drawing a comic showing the evolution of Android.
