Viber for Android has been one of the most popular instant messenger applications with more than 100 million users, which is why the latest security glitch found in the application might be kind of a big deal. The issue allows you to bypass the lock screen of a smartphone and gain full access to its data.

The critical flaw allows you to bypass the lock screens of Samsung, Sony, LG and HTC smartphones. The bypass techniques vary from model to model, but the exploit uses the logic of popup messages of Viber.

Microsoft is planning to launch an application called “Switch to Windows Phone” for the Android platform. The app is expected to ease any app availability concerns of users who consider switching from Android platform to Windows Phone.

Recently, HTC launched the developer edition of the HTC One in the US. This model was mostly identical to the model sold by the carriers, but comes with the network and the bootloader unlocked.

An as of yet unknown tablet from Asus, the Eeepad ME302C has surfaced on the GLBenchmark website, revealing yet another variant of Asus’ successful Android based tablet.

Samsung is extending the standard 24-month warranty with an additional clause for accidental damage in certain markets at no extra cost. The accidental damage covers broken displays and boards damaged by liquids.

An alleged (that being the key word here) internal test on the Samsung Galaxy S4, performed by Samsung, revealed that the company thinks the device is good but not quite the best.

After what seems like an eternity, Swype keyboard for Android is now finally out of its beta stage and available for download on the Google Play Store. The app is currently priced at an introductory price of $0.99.

For those who don’t know, Swype pioneered the sliding gesture-based typing method on phone keypads back in 2010. Since then this method of typing has been incorporated by several other keyboards, including the popular SwiftKey, and even built-in to several phones as standard. Read more »

Sony Xperia ZL has landed at our office. It’s the not-so-tough Xperia Z sibling, powered by the same hardware platform and running on identical Android version with the same custom UI (launcher).

The Xperia ZL may not be water or dust-proof, but offers a few extra goodies over the Z model – a hardware camera key, an infrared port, а smaller footprint and a much better grip, thanks to the textured rear panel. Read more »
