Apple iPad Mini 2 back housing leaks, suggests no major design changes

We saw the leaked back panel of the Apple iPad 4 a while ago and now, the aluminum body of the upcoming iPad Mini successor has been spotted. Unsurprisingly, the back housing of the iPad Mini 2 does not suggest any major changes in the design and it looks like Apple is going to stick with the proven formula for its second-gen compact tablet.

If the leaked images are to be trusted, it is fairly easy to assume that Apple will be focusing improvements on the internals of the tablet, its software and hopefully an improved screen. Read more »

Apple iPad 5 back casing leaks, confirms iPad mini like design

A leaked prototype of the upcoming iPad 5 from Apple had suggested that the slate would sport an iPad Mini-like design. Now, the aluminum back housing of the fifth-generation iPad has surfaced and confirms that the device would indeed resemble the iPad Mini.

This means that the Apple iPad 5 will come out with a much thinner side bezel, making the device more compact. The Cupertino giant has also managed to reduce the width of its fifth-gen iPad and the upcoming tablet reportedly measures 168mm – which is about 0.7 inches narrower than the iPad 4, which stands at 185.7mm. The hotly anticipated BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS that was officially announced by BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins, back at the company’s annual Live 2013 conference is a step closer to its official release as the app is now in its beta testing stages.

Nokia unhappy with Windows Phone 8 progress

Nokia is by far the biggest player in the Windows Phone 8 game. However, the Finns doesn’t seem to be too happy with the progress of the latest version of the platform.

Sony and Panasonic working on a new 300 GB optical disc standard

Sony and Panasonic have officially announced that they are working on the next-generation optical disc for long-term digital data storage. Both companies are planning to develop an optical disc with storage capabilities of at least 300 GB by the end of 2015.

Strategy Analytics: Android now dominates tablet market as iOS sales slow down

The Android platform continues its dominance in tablet market with its shipments reaching 24.2 million in the second quarter of 2013. According to a research from Strategy Analytics, Android currently has 67 % of the tablet market, while the Apple owned iOS has declined to 28%. Windows is also on the rise, but has only managed to secure a 4.5% slice so far.

The tablet market has seen a new rise with the overall shipments reaching 36.2 million in Q2, 2013. That’s of course, a significant gain over the same period last year, when 24.6 million tablets were shipped. Read more »

New Nexus 7 sign-up page appears in many countries

Google recently launched its second-generation Nexus 7 tablet and the slate is already available in Google Play Store and several other major retailers across the United States. Google did not announce the launch date of its Nexus 7 2 for other countries, but now the sign-up page of next-gen affordable tablets have appeared in many countries.

Samsung allegedly working on 12.2-inch and 10-inch tablets

Samsung has covered almost all kinds of existing tablet screen sizes, but it looks like the South Koreans are planning to take its tablets another step further. According to the popular tipster evleaks, Samsung is working on a 12.2-inch tablet with the model number “SM-P900″.

The Samsung SM-P900 is said to feature a 12.2-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. A leaked user agent profile had earlier suggested a mysterious device with a similar resolution, so SM-P900 could well be a device in the making. Read more »

However, Best Buy one of the official retailers of the slate has jumped the gun and has started shipping out the tablet to those who pre-ordered it.

AMD Richland processor sets 8.2GHz record

The Finnish extreme over-clockers “The Stilt” have set a new world record for clock speed. Using the AMD A10-6800K Richland APU, the guys managed to reach 8.2 GHz clock speed.

The AMD flagship chip was mounted on an ASUS F2A85-V Pro board and with the help of liquid nitrogen, the enthusiasts managed to reach a voltage of 2,008 volts and resulted in a core clock speed of 8,000.48MHz with its bus clock reading 126.99MHz. Read more »

Android tablet sales reach 70 million

At today’s “breakfast with Sundar Pichai” event, Google announced that its mobile operating platform – Android now powers 70 million tablets across the globe.

Google also claims that the market share of Android tablets is close to 50%, with “almost one in two tablets sold worldwide” in the first half of this year running on its mobile platform. Read more »
