Last year, Microsoft released a version of Office for the iOS platform but it wasn’t what everyone had expected. For starters, it was only available on the iPhone and not the iPad where it would be more suitable and secondly, it was a free app that was limited to only those who had an Office 365 subscription.

Microsoft will now be rectifying the first problem by unveiling the iPad version of the ‘Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers’ on March 27 at an event in San Francisco. The event will be hosted by Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, and will be his first since taking up the position. Read more »

Microsoft has released a Mac version of their powerful note-taking application service, OneNote. For those not aware, OneNote is the Swiss Army knife of note-taking applications with more features than you’ll ever need. And with it’s native OneDrive integration, it also syncs your notes across multiple devices.

OneNote was previously available on Windows, Windows Phone, iOS and Android but now those on the Macs can also join in the note-taking fun. But to make sure more people on Windows can also take part, Microsoft has released a standalone OneNote app for Windows, free of charge, that was initially part of the Microsoft Office suite. Rovio has released the latest installment in the popular Angry Birds series of games, called the Angry Birds Epic. Although based on the same characters that we have been seeing for the past several Angry Birds games, this one is actually an RPG title and not the usual bird-flinging action game.

As is the case with RPG games, you have a lot of flexibility with your weapons and abilities. You can craft your weapons and unlock and upgrade your abilities, including character, armor, weapons and potions, as the game progresses. It’s a turn-based RPG and the game switches back and forth between the birds that you control and your enemies, the pigs. Read more »

It is not often we see a price hike for consoles but it has happened in Canada. According to the Toronto Sun, Sony will be hiking the price of the PlayStation 4 console from $399.99 to $449.99.

According to Sony, the price hike is “to respond to changes in the market environment”, although it is likely due to the weak Canadian dollar compared to its US counterpart, which makes it harder for companies to sustain profit without a price hike. Read more »

The first official review of the Galaxy S5 is out, even though the phone is still some way off from being officially available. The review touches upon various aspects of the phone’s performance, talking about some of the new features and how it fares compared to its predecessor.

Starting with the design, the S5 is physically larger than the S4 but it more than makes up for being water resistant. Although Samsung made it clear that the phone is only water resistant and not waterproof, as you can see in the image above the phone can safely be left underwater for a while without damaging it. Valve has shown the latest design of the Steam Controller that it announced late last year. The controller is part of the living room gaming project, involving the Steam OS and Steam Hardware.

If you remember the first prototype design that Steam showcased, it had these massive touchpads on either side (that also work as speakers) with a touchscreen in the middle flanked by four keys. In the latest design, the touchscreen has been canned and in its place are four direction keys and four action buttons, marked A, B, X and Y. Read more »

In a rather odd turn of events, it seems Titanfall may just be coming to the Mac. Responding to a tweet on whether the game could be arriving on Apple’s desktop platform, co-founder of Respawn Entertainment (the people who developed Titanfall for Windows and Xbox) Vince Zampella said that they are talking to Aspyr, publisher of games for Mac, and that “they should do it”.

In case you haven’t heard of it yet, Titanfall is the biggest release of 2014 so far and a landmark game for Microsoft. The company managed to get exclusive rights to the game, which is why it is only available on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows. This is exactly why the news of the game arriving on Mac seems so odd. Google has started rolling out an update for the Play Store app on Android. Version 4.6.16 brings with it some much needed features, along with some UI changes.

One of the major additions is the ability to batch install apps from your apps history. This will come extremely handy when you get a new device and want to install all your apps on it. You just go to the All tab in My Apps section and press and hold apps to start marking apps you want to batch install. Also, the app won’t take you to the top of the list anymore after you remove an app from your list. Read more »

Razer has announced a new version of the 14-inch Razer Blade that was introduced last year. A lot of the components have been retained in the new model, including the quad-core 2.2GHz Intel Core i7-4702HQ processor and 8GB of RAM. But now you get a stonking 3200×1800 resolution display instead.

The new display replaces the 1600×900 resolution display on the previous mode. It uses an IGZO panel and has multitouch support so you can experience Windows 8.1 the way it was intended to be. Powering the new display is a new GPU: an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M with 3GB DDR5 VRAM, along with the standard integrated Intel HD 4600 graphics. Read more »

After a fair bit of delay since it was first announced, the developers of the popular VLC Player application have finally released a new beta on the Windows Store, designed specifically for the Modern UI.

This is mostly the same VLC that we know but in a fresh new design. This means it will still play pretty much everything you throw at it. This is, however, a beta and the developers haven’t been cagey in describing all the issues in the latest version. There is a pretty long list, including lack of hardware acceleration, subtitle and audio issues, lack of playlists and stream support and general stability issues. Read more »

Nikon has announced its latest mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the Nikon 1 V3. The V3 has a new 18.4 megapixel 1″ CX-format CMOS sensor, and a new EXPEED 4A image processor. The camera also has a new Hybrid AF system, that allows it to have full autofocus while taking 20 shots per second, the fastest for any camera.

Other features include 1080p60 video recording mode, 720p 120 fps slow motion mode, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and a 3-inch tilting LCD with touch panel. Read more »

Not long after it was pulled off the stores, developer of notoriously popular Flappy Bird game Dong Nguyen says he is considering bringing the game back.

For those who are not aware, Flappy Bird was a popular arcade game for iOS and Android that featured guiding a bird through a series of tightly spaced out pipes. The game was quite difficult but also quite addictive so despite the frustration it caused people kept playing it, which resulted in its astounding popularity. Even though the game was free to play with only the in-game ads being the source of revenue, Nguyen was said to be earning close to $50,000 per day from his game. Read more »

Normally, users would get to try the service for 30 days but with this promotion you can get twice of that if you choose to go with a Chromebook. The offer is available on all Chromebooks, except the Cr-48, Acer AC700, and Samsung Chromebook Series 5.

All Access is Google’s music subscription service where you can pay $9.99 per month and get access to over 20 million tracks and radio stations from Google Play. Once subscribed, you can access the music from any platform the service is available on, including the web, Android and iOS. Read more »

Smash Hits is the latest game from the folks who brought us Sprinkle, Sprinkle Junior and Sprinkle Islands. If those games tell us anything, it’s that Mediocre knows how to emulate physics in games.

In Smash Hits you throw balls at glass structures, which earns you points and keeps you moving forward. Pebble has announced that their mobile appstore is now finally available on Android. Users who wish to access it will have to download the Pebble Android app from Google Play Store.

The Pebble appstore is part of the new Pebble 2.0 app that also has a new design. You will be able to access the entire store from the app, download the app and then push it to your Pebble watch. The Pebble appstore previously made an appearance on the iOS version but it took Pebble some time to get it working on Android. Read more »
