Sony announces Cyber-shot RX100 III

Sony has announced the third model in the popular and fantastic RX series of Cyber-shot cameras, the RX100 III. The RX100 III features the same compact design as its predecessors but turns everything else up to eleven.

Inside, the RX100 III has the same 20.2 megapixel 1.0-type backside illuminated CMOS sensor from the RX100 II but it combines it with a brand new lens and processor. The lens is now a 24-70mm instead of the 28-100mm on the previous two models but more importantly now has an aperture range of F1.8-F2.8 instead of F1.8-F4.9. Read more »

Zero Lemon Galaxy S5 case straps a 7500mAh battery to the back of your phone

Zero Lemon, makers of outrageously large battery cases that can power a small home, have released a new case for the Samsung Galaxy S5. Like their previous models, this case replaces the default battery and back cover on your phone with a massive 7500mAh powerhouse.

The case encompasses the back and the sides of the phone and along with the added power also gives added protection. The battery also supports NFC so you don’t lose that functionality with you replace the stock battery. However, the S5 will no longer be waterproof with this case. Read more »

Nikon announces 1 J4 and 1 S2 mirrorless camera

Nikon has announced two new mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras in the US. The first is the 1 J4, which was announced once previously (but without the pricing and the availability) and the second is the 1 S2, which is its cheaper sibling.

The Nikon 1 J4 replaces the previous 1 J3. It has a new 18.4 megapixel CX-format CMOS sensor with an ultra fast 20 fps burst mode at full resolution. It also has 171 contrast detect focus points and 105 phase detect focus points for greater accuracy. Read more »

Nexus 5 Snap Case now available on Play Store

Google has added a new case for the Nexus 5 on the Play Store. Called the Snap Case, the new case is made from a harder material and unlike the previous Bumper Case or the QuickCover does not wrap completely around the device.

The new Snap Case is lighter and thinner than the other two cases and is designed to offer protection without adding too much to the size and weight of the phone. There are already several variations of this design available for the Nexus 5 from third party manufacturers. Read more »

‘Portal’ and ‘Half-Life 2′ now available on the NVIDIA Shield

We talked about the imminent arrival of two popular Valve titles, Portal and Half-Life 2, on the NVIDIA Shield in the past. Thankfully, NVIDIA didn’t make us wait too long and both games are now available on the Play Store.

For the three of you who still haven’t heard of either Portal or Half-Life 2, the former is a futuristic first person shooter where you primarily solve puzzles in a lab and the second is a first-person action game. Both games are ridiculously popular and for good reason. Half-Life 2 revolutionized the first person shooter genre with its terrific story, characters, gameplay and weapons. Samsung unveils 1.5TB wireless media drive for smartphones

Samsung and Seagate have joined forced to create a new wireless media drive. The drive lets you store all your media content, which can then be wirelessly streamed to a mobile device or a computer.

The device has a 1.5TB hard drive that should provide plenty of space for most of your content. You can connect a mobile device running Android 2.3 and above directly to it to stream the content. You can also stream to a Windows or OS X computer. Read more »

Twitter finally adds mute support

Twitter is a great way to keep in touch with people and all that goes around in the world. But often, you may be following someone whose tweets you may not want to read on occasions but don’t want to unfollow them either. Muting, a functionality offered by many third party Twitter clients, enabled users to mute these people so that their tweets would be hidden from your timeline without their knowledge and without you having to unfollow them.

Not a lot of people use third party clients, however, and those who use the website or the official app have been asking for an official mute functionality from Twitter for a long time now. After years of requests, Twitter has finally obliged. Read more »

‘Half-Life 2′ arriving on NVIDIA Shield

It seems the popular Half-Life 2 series is set to arrive on the NVIDIA Shield gaming console. After announcing Portal for the Shield, which will be available starting May 12, it’s Gordon Freeman’s turn to make an appearance on the mobile platform.

Half-Life 2 is an extremely popular series of first person games that includes the original Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One and Half-Life 2: Episode Two. The series famously ended on a cliffhanger seven years ago and since then fans have been waiting for Half-Life 3 that is yet to be announced. Read more »

Samsung explains the camera on the Galaxy S5

We have talked about the ISOCELL sensor in the Galaxy S5 in the past, but there are also other aspects of the phone’s camera that Samsung is intent on talking about.

One of them is real-time HDR feature. This lets you see the an HDR version of the image live on the viewfinder, even before you take the photo. This gives an idea of how the photo will look like, even before it is taken. Read more »

Slim PS Vita with Borderlands 2 pack now available in the US

Sony has finally released the second generation slim PS Vita console in the US. As you can guess, it is a slimmer and lighter version of its predecessor with a few other changes.

Along with being 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter, the new Vita has 1GB internal memory, improved battery life, LCD instead of AMOLED display, and slight redesign of the shape and buttons for more comfort. Read more »

ASUS announces C200 and C300 Chromebooks

After Lenovo announced two budget Chromebooks, It’s ASUS’ turn. The company announced two new models of its own, the C200 and the C300, that start at just $250.

C200 has a 11.6-inch display with 1366×768 resolution whereas the C300 maintains that resolution but goes to 13.3-inch. Both models run on Intel Bay Trail-M processor clocked at 2.42GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.0, HDMI 1.4 and an SD card slot.

Both models will start shipping in North America by the end of June, starting at $250 for the base model.

Google Now adds cards to show products in a nearby store

Treading the fine line between convenient and creepy, Google has added yet another feature to Google Now that goes through your personal information and suggests something relevant.

This time, it’s cards that tell you when a certain product is available in a store near you. If you walk past a store, Google Now will show a card with items and their pricing available in that store, items that you have looked up in the past and are interested in purchasing. Read more »

Lenovo releases two new Chromebooks

Lenovo has announced two new Chromebook models, the Lenovo N20 and N20p. Both machines are nearly identical in terms of specifications, but while the N20 has a standard design, the N20p display flips backward and has a touchscreen.

Both machines come with a 11.6-inch, 1366×768 resolution display, Haswell-based Intel Celeron processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space. Read more »

Swatch fighting to acquire ‘iWatch’ trademark before Apple

It’s no secret that Apple is working on a smartwatch/wearable of some sort that is expected to be unveiled some time this year. But while the competition is trying to get their own smartwatches out before then, actual watchmaker Swatch is after something else.

The Swiss company is trying to acquire the trademark for the name iWatch, widely believed to be the name of Apple’s smartwatch. Swatch already has a range of watches called iSwatch and thinks a competitor having the iWatch name will cause confusion, so it will either acquire the trademark or block Apple from doing so.
