4K video recording is slowly starting to become a standard feature in high-end Android phones, but the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will remain the first phone to have this feature. And it wasn’t just a number on the spec sheet but a well executed feature, which is why it’s not surprising to see it being compared to a DSLR.

In this video, the 4K video of the Note 3 was compared to the 1080p video of the Canon 5D Mark III, a highly proficient camera as far as video recording is concerned. Read more »

Google has released a flurry of updates for some of its key apps on Android, including Google Search, Play Music and Play Games.

The first is the Search app (version 3.4.15.1143430.arm), which gets a cool new addition. The app will now try and determine the position of your car when you park it, so when you return you know where to find it on the map. Read more »

Popular photo messaging service Snapchat is adding two new features to its repertoire. The service is known for being able to send photos across that automatically disappear after a short time. Now, users will also get the option to do video calls and send text messages, in a way that fits Snapchat’s personality.

The new app will have the same basic interface design as the current version, but if you were to swipe right on the name of a contact in your inbox, you start a text chat with them. Here you can type and send messages, which disappear automatically when the other person reads them. Similarly, the messages they send disappear from your phone after you read them, unless you tap on them to save them. Read more »

Facebook has announced two new ways of logging into apps using your Facebook account. The ability to log into other services using your Facebook account has always been a convenient option but the cost of that convenience was giving away your personal information to an app that you may not fully trust.

With the new Anonymous Login feature, you can now log into services without giving away any personal information. You will see the option to login anonymously on apps that support this feature along with the standard Facebook Login. Read more »

Mozilla has released version 29 of their desktop and mobile browser. But while the mobile browser only gets a few new features, the desktop version get a completely revamped interface.

Firefox for desktop interface features a new tab bar that looks like the one on Google Chrome, with its pyramid shaped tab structure. One interesting design feature is the way background tabs just blend with the background until you highlight them. Read more »

Apple Stores in the US have started getting stock of a newer version of the MacBook Air that should go on sale soon. Unfortunately, this isn’t the major update we have been waiting for but just a tiny spec bump, perhaps the last update for this generation before the major update by the end of the year.

The latest update features a very slightly faster version of Intel’s CPU, with the standard clock speed getting boosted from the current 1.3GHz to 1.4GHz. The Turbo Boost speed has gone up from 2.6GHz to 2.7GHz. Read more »

Samsung has announced a new series of audio products, called Level, which comprises of three headphones and one portable speaker. The three headphones include the Level Over, Level On and Level In, and Level Box is the portable speaker.

The Level Over are a pair of wireless Bluetooth circumaural headphones. They have 50mm drivers with neodymium magnets and use active noise cancellation using dual microphones with support for the aptX codec. Read more »

Another superhero movie, another superhero movie tie-in game. We see these kind of games pop up quite frequently and rarely do they ever do justice to the movie, let alone to gaming. But people keep making them because, well, who doesn’t like money?

The previous The Amazing Spider-Man game for mobile was mediocre at best (to be honest, the movie wasn’t significantly better). This year, we have a sequel for the movie that promises to be bigger and better than the last one and like clockwork, there is a game that goes along with it. WhatsApp has released an update for Android (v2.11.230) that brings with it the highly requested group muting settings.

Anyone who has used WhatsApp groups would know how annoying some of them can get over time and there was no way to permanently mute them. The latest update, however, adds some new options that lets you mute a group beyond one week, all the way up to a century. Read more »

Microsoft has confirmed that it has shipped 2 million consoles in the first quarter of 2014, with 1.2 million of them being the new Xbox One and the rest being the previous generation Xbox 360 consoles.

The 2 million figure is the number of consoles Microsoft sold to retailers and not actual consoles sold to customers. Recently, we saw both Sony and Microsoft announcing their console sales figure since launch, with Microsoft boasting 5 million sales for the Xbox One and Sony counting 7 million actual customers. Leica has announced a new T-System of cameras, with the first one being called the Leica T. The Leica T is a compact mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, milled out of a solid block of aluminum in a way only Leica can.

Inside, the gorgeous body is a 16 megapixel APS-C sensor with 1080p30 video recording ability. On the back is a 3.7-inch touchscreen display. You can also get an optional viewfinder, that also comes with GPS built-in. Read more »

Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President at Google and the father of Google+, has left the company. Gundotra announced his departure from the company in a post on Google+.

Gundotra has been working for Google for close to eight years, and has worked on many projects, the biggest ones being Google+ and Google I/O. He was frequently seen at the latter, giving keynotes at the company’s launch events. Read more »

Facebook has reported the financial results for the first quarter of 2014. The company reported revenue of $2.5 billion, up by 72% over the same period last year. Revenue from advertising was $2.27 billion, up by 82% from the same period last year.

Facebook also reported the numbers for the active users using the service. Currently, Facebook is clocking in at 1.28 billion monthly active users, a 15% growth compared to last year, along with 1.01 billion monthly active users from mobile devices, a solid 34% increase over last year. Read more »

After releasing the first Windows 8.1 update earlier this month, Microsoft is now working on the second update that is expected to arrive in August with some much requested features.
