The Wi-Fi only Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been selling in the States since June, but those of you holding out for Verizon’s LTE model will be pleased to hear that they only have to wait a couple of days more until a promise launch that’s due in this Thursday.

Hitachi announced a new mobile IPS LCD display that also does glasses-free 3D. It’s quite a beast at 4.5″ and 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and it uses lenticular technology to create the stereoscopic effect, which allows it to be brighter when displaying 3D images.

Hitachi say that typical glasses-free 3D displays (that use a parallax barrier) have their brightness cut in half when showing 3D content. Not so with their new display – it’s actually brighter in 3D mode. Read more »

Have a look at the picture below – what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Yep, everyone else thought “smart cover”, too. Except for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets. I can’t imagine this will help the lawsuit.

We’ve already seen Bada 2.0.1 in screenshots and on video, but now you can try it too – if you have a Samsung S8530 Wave II and you’re willing to install an unfinished firmware on it, that is.

There are quite a few people already who have given it a spin and they’ve shot quite a few videos showing the new version of Bada. If you decide to join them, you should know that the firmware is old (April) and has its bugs. Read more »

Well, that was quick – Google Plus has reached 10 million users already, despite being less than three weeks old. The influx of people was so large that Google had to shut down the invitation system for a while (it’s back up now).

That’s right – that many people got in before the service is officially open to anyone. One problem though – girls don’t seem to be into it. According to some statistics, as much as 87% of Google Plus users are male. Read more »

The Motorola Photon 4G for Sprint caused some salivation when it was announced in early June and now we have the two last pieces of the puzzle – the pricing and the exact launch date.

The dual-core droid is a CDMA phone with 4G connectivity (WiMAX in this case), but it works on GSM networks, too. Still, if you want one, you’ll have to sign a 2-year contract with Sprint. Read more »

You may remember Sony Ericsson’s Facebook competition that asked its fans to do video reviews of the txt pro and the Mix Walkman. Today, we have the Sony Ericsson txt pro in our office and we thought we should take it for a quick spin on video too.

The txt pro is an extra tiny phone and it’s got its eye on messaging – and more specifically, social networking messaging. The slide-out QWERTY is more comfortable to use than you might think just by looking at it (it really is quite small), but it adds to the thickness of the phone, pushing it up to 18mm. Read more »

Google continues its offensive on the social networking world with a new photo sharing service called Photovine. Today they’ve released a quick teaser video (it used to be just a two line description and a mockup image), which gives us a basic idea of what the service will be about.

The tagline of Photovine is “Plant a photo, watch it grow” – basically, you post a photo with a two or three word description. Then other people send back photo requests of their own on that topic. Read more »

Today we’re joined by the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray to talk about small smartphones. It measures just 9.4mm in thickness and the 3.3″ screen makes for a very compact phone overall. Sony Ericsson didn’t skimp on the resolution though – the screen packs 480 x 854 pixels, which means nearly 300ppi pixel density (the iPhone 4′s Retina display has 326ppi).

Aside from low-res screens, small smartphones usually get stuck with an old chipset – that’s not the case with the Xperia ray either. It has a 1GHz CPU and can record 720p video from its 8MP camera. Read more »

While there were plenty of people charging to get into Google+, only US users get to try the Android app. Not any more – you can download the APK file and install it manually, regardless of where you roll.

You will need a Google+ account for that and most people report that the loophole, which allowed many to sneak in despite not having invites, has been closed. Read more »

Sony’s Android tablets have been official for a while now but there’s tantalizingly little info on either of them. Tech geeks in Munich however got lucky enough to be treated to a quick hands on.

A new Samsung droid is heading to Sprint – the Samsung Conquer 4G packs a 1GHz processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and 4G connectivity (WiMAX). The phone was temporarily available on one the Samsung websites but they’ve pulled it down for some reason.

Fear not, Google cache remembers all you need to know about the Conquer 4G. It packs a 3.5″ HVGA screen and a 3.2MP main camera with LED flash (plus a 1.3MP front-facing camera). There’s a shutter key as well. Read more »

Google has had several attempts at cracking social networking and it’s fair to say that they weren’t terribly successful (there were lawsuits involved). The latest project, called Google+, however looks like it could be a winner.

Sony announced a new 13″ VAIO Z laptop, which makes even the S Series model look chubby. Long story short, the new Z Series puts an Intel Core i7 processor in a body that weighs less than 1.2kg and is thinner than 17mm.

There’s also a clever dock that houses a discreet video card and a Blu-ray drive (which is great as neither of those two have a place on a portable device if you ask me). And typically for the Z Series, the laptop weighs less than its price in gold. Read more »

While carriers are still pushing all sorts of technologies as “4G”, Ericsson did a quick demo run of actual 4G – LTE Advanced – using a test network. They achieved mind-boggling speeds of around 950Mbps – in other words, much, much faster than current “4G” offerings (including LTE) and faster than even Wi-Fi 802.11n.

Ericsson expects the first commercial LTE Advanced network to be up and running by 2013, though considering most networks haven’t even begun rolling out LTE, I doubt Advanced will reach many people soon. Still, here’s what you can expect from LTE Advanced. Read more »
