We received several worrying tip in our inbox – Skype isn’t supported on Nokia Belle and it won’t work properly, specifically on the Nokia N8. Sure enough, we found multiple reports of crashes on Belle and going to www.skype.com/m we were greeted with a message that our Belle-running Nokia (for the record, 808 PureView) isn’t a supported device.

Sony has freshened up its XQD card lineup – the new S series cards will launch with 64GB capacity and a whopping 168MB/s data transfer rates. The old H series maxed out at 125MB/s.

A Nikon D4 can pipe 108 RAW shots in a non-stop burst, which according to Sony is enough to capture the men’s 100m sprint final from start to finish if you set the framerate at 10fps. Read more »

The LG Optimus 4X HD uses NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 chipset, featuring a special power-saving CPU core which NVIDIA made a lot of noise about. Couple that with a large 2150mAh battery and the Optimus 4X HD should be more than simply adequate in terms of battery life, right?

The HTC One X has similar specs (Tegra 3, 4.7″ 720p LCD), but a smaller battery (1800mAh), so it didn’t quite top our charts even with the above-mentioned extra core. Read on to find out if the LG will do. Read more »

When we reviewed the Nokia 808 PureView a lot of our time was spent on the camera. Now that the review is done, we’ve had time to test out the battery – it’s a fine balance between Symbian’s low requirements and the relatively small 1400mAh battery.

The 808 PureView is far from the most compact phone around, so it’s natural to think that Nokia could have fit a bigger battery. But maybe they didn’t need to, find out after the jump. Read more »

BLU is moving in to steal Nokia’s claim to having the cheapest handset – meet Tank and Jenny. Both phones offer a good deal more than the €16 Nokia 103, even if they do lack the pedigree of the Finnish phone.

The two phones pack a 1.8″ color displays. The image quality most certainly won’t be brilliant but at this price range you’re typically looking at monochrome screens. They even have a camera capable of video recording – the press release doesn’t say anything about resolution, but any camera is a step above none, right? Read more »

Just as expected, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are already out – both officially and unofficially – but the HTC One X gets to join in on the action too.

Initially based on the SDK, the ROM created by an XDA-Developers member is now based on the Galaxy Nexus images. Read more »

Google is on a roll today – on top of all the hardware and software products they unveiled today, they found time to talk about Google Glass. It’s not a complete product – far from it, but they showed their progress so far.

The device itself features a processor, camera, built-in storage, multiple radios and several sensors (gyroscope, accelerometer and compass). Read more »

Google’s new tablet, the Nexus 7, will be the first device that will come with the mobile Google Chrome as its default browser. Google’s presenters were mum on what that means for other devices.

Nexus 7 is also the first Jelly Bean device, so it’s possible that JB will drop the current browser and use Chrome. Since it would be a while since any of us not present at the Google I/O gets one, I suggest you head to the Google Play app store to get the latest version of the Chrome browser for Android. We already had a look at how many new Androids are activated a day, now it’s time to look at the Google Play store. There are now 600,000 apps and games in the store and users do 1.5 billion installs each month. Google have tallied the score and there have been 20 billion installs in total.

It’s not just the number of apps though, the way apps are handled has been improved and the Play Store now offers magazines and TV shows. Read more »

We’ve had the Huawei Ascend P1 in our office long enough to run the battery tests. Since we couldn’t find official battery life numbers on Huawei’s website, this is our first look at how long the 1670mAh battery lasts.

The Ascend P1 performed more or less as we expected it to – with web browsing once again proving to be the bane of AMOLED screens. The other numbers are very good though. Read more »

Mozilla are always toying with new designs for a web browser – their latest effort is called ‘Junior’ and is a browser prototype for the iPad with a design that’s a clean break from the standard Safari browser.

Mozilla created Junior because even though, according to them, the iPad offers the best browsing experience on a tablet, it’s still “miserable”. Read more »
