Microsoft has just sealed a deal for acquiring Skype Technologies SA company. The deal is for $8.5 billion – the biggest sum Microsoft has paid for an acquisition up to date. They are certainly overpaying but they desperately need to expand their online services portfolio.
The rumors about this acquisition started just yesterday, but it’s official now.
Yesterday Microsoft released a new (security) update for the Windows Phone 7 OS. It seems not all devices will qualify for this update though. Those phones that have been updated previously via any unofficial channel, won’t be able to get this update and any further to follow.

The expected Windows Phone 7 May update is already available and most of the users should have access to it. It does only one thing – fixes security vulnerability with fraudulent third-party digital certificates.

Carphone Warehouse has priced LG’s upcoming Optimus Pad tablet at £800. The retailer’s website says the Optimus Pad is in stock but I seriously doubt that, most probably it is on the way and should become available soon.
The tablet is already available in Japan and the USA (via T-Mobile), but we are still awaiting its worldwide launch. If it’s going to hit the shelves with an £800 price tag I guess it will be staying on them for a while. Read more »

The Galaxy Gio is one of the four new members in the mid-range Galaxy lineup running on Froyo – Ace, Fit, Mini and Gio. We already had the Ace in our hands so we didn’t expect any surprises with the Gio. And there certainly are none, now that we have it on our hands.
Samsung Galaxy Gio packs virtually the same hardware as the Ace except two minor changes – a 0.3-inch smaller display and a 3.2 auto-focus megapixel camera instead of 5. As you should well know, the last Harry Potter movie was split into two parts, because the seventh book turned out impossible to fit into a two-hour movie. The first part of the Deathly Hallows premiered last November and it was really good and the script was very close to the book.

Two days ago Nintendo announced its plans to launch a Wii successor next year. The better part of this announcement was that Nintendo will actually demo the new console on the upcoming E3 expo this June in LA.

Apple has started sending new test iPhone 4 units to some game developers letting them prepare their products for the next generation iPhone. The test units are no different than the iPhone 4 on the outside, but on the inside, there is a spanking new Apple A5 dual-core chip.
This doesn’t mean they have the iPhone 5 in their hands, but tells us that the next iPhone will definitely pack the dual-core A5 chip the iPad 2 has. Read more »
