The iPhone’s Voice Control feature is present for quite some time in the iOS. If you’ve ever used a passcode on your lockscreen for protection, you should be already familiar you should disable the Voice Dial from the settings otherwise everyone can call anyone he likes.
Well, enter the much more capable iPhone 4S Siri. Guess what, it would still work from your lockscreen by default even if you’ve set a passcode for your iPhone 4S. You can already imagine how someone who gets access to your locked phone can perform all these clever tasks you’ve seen on the demos like extract all sorts of info about you, your regime and they can even call whoever they like. As all Android fans should be familiar by now, every Android release is marked with a beautiful mascot in the Google headquarters’ backyard. The Ice Cream Sandwich is also nearing its release (October 19, anyone?), so it makes sense we see its statue already standing among its siblings.

The app Find My Friends that was announced a week ago at the Let’s Talk iPhone event, has just become available into the Apple App Store. It is free and compatible with both the iPhone/iPod and the iPad – given any of these run the latest iOS 5.
The app allows you to share your current location always with trusted friends or temporary with not-so-trusted ones. It works both ways – you can see your friends’ location too. Think Google LAtitude, but hopefully, less of a power hog. Read more »
RIM has managed to make angry millions of BlackBerry users in less than 24 hours. Yesterday, the BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) was down across the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). This blackout has prevented the BlackBerry users to use email, messaging and web browsing for a few hours. We decided to take a pass on this news, hoping RIM will sort it out quickly.
In the end, RIM did solve its problems and brought online its BIS service, issuing a short statement to apologize.
But today, the BIS blackout is happening again. RIM claims the service is working, but there is a delay. Well, as a BlackBerry user myself, I don’t think a period of three hours (and counting) is what you call a delay. In my books, that’s a fail – a second fail in two consecutive days. What up, RIM? As usual Apple didn’t specify the amount of RAM on the iPhone 4S announcement, nor is it mentioned on the official website. We are still a few days ahead of the iPhone 4S launch, so no one has disassembled it yet to discover what’s hiding inside the shell.
Still, there are iPhone 4S shipped to developers for months, so we can still have a confirmation on some specs before we get it in our hands. That’s the case here – the creative director of Infinity Blade 2 talks how cool is the new iPhone 4S: Read more »

OK, I admit the Meltemi case has become awkward. First it was the good news about Nokia working on a Linux-based project called Meltemi to replace the S40 platform. Then all of a sudden we found out The Register has already revealed months ago that the Meltemi is actually the codename for Nokia’s Windows Phone project.
Yesterday, The Register controverted its April news and confirmed that Meltemi is indeed a Linux-based replacement for the S40 platform. Read more »
Apple has just released the iOS 5 Gold Master for the developers. It is the final step before unleashing the mass update for the regular users on October 12.
According to Apple, the iOS 5 will launch with iCloud sync and services, while the iTunes match will become available for the US users in the end of this month. The rest of the world should get it in the upcoming months.
If you are a registered developer with Apple you can get the iOS 5 GM right now. The rest of the users will have to wait a few days until October 12.
We already covered most of the iOS 5 features in our iOS 5 beta review. Surely Apple held a few surprises for the launch, but most of the important stuff we already know.
Apple adds a new accessory to its portfolio – the iPhone microUSB adapter. It does just what it says on the box – allows you to use standard microUSB cables and chargers with your iPhone both for syncing(!) and charging.
The unveiling of such a gadget might not seem so surprising at first look, but it actually represents an end of an era where Apple’s closed eco system relied solely on proprietary hardware and peripherals to run and interconnect. Read more »
Siri is now an integral part of the iPhone 4S. It’s supposed to do a lot of stuff for you, among which, answer any question you may come up with. You can ask about anything – the weather, movies, restaurants, news, etc. and providing you have an intelligent question, it should get you a reasonably intelligent answer quickly and in the right context.
But Siri is not just an intelligent voice search system. It can also read your messages, emails, notifications for you. Siri has dictate functionality too – you speak and it writes messages, notes, remainders, etc. Read more »
So, Apple has just announced the next iPhone – 4S – with big improvements in the camera department. The iPhone 4S packs an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p camcorder. But that’s just the beginning.
First you get lots of new technology improvements – back-illuminated sensor with 5 elements lens, F/2.4 aperture, hybrid IR filter, etc. So, all this new stuff will get you better colors, better noise performance, more sharpness and better white balance. There is face detection and the HDR feature is present too along with an AE/AF lock.
But the iPhone 4S has lots of (cameraphone) competitors already available, so it needs to do better. According to Apple, the iPhone 4S camera might just be the fastest cameraphone around. We have to see if it is the best for real, but we get some really impressive times for the first photo and shot-to-shot. Read more »
