Refocus is quite an interesting camera app compatible with all Windows Phone 8-running smartphones. It has one major feature – it lets you refocus after you snap a picture.

This sounds cool and is quite simple to operate – the app just takes a few shots with different focus and works with those. There is no magic or heavy post-processing involved here. Read more »

Google Now lands on iOS, available within Google Search

Google Now is now available on iOS as a free update for the popular Google Search app. The iOS app recognizes voice and actually looks hotter than its Android peer (the cards have a nice CoverFlow-like view), but can’t quite match the functionality of the Google OS version.

For example you can’t interact with the iOS – you can’t invoke a call or a navigation route, you can’t setup an alarm, do a text a message or a note, etc. Also, Google Now on iOS doesn’t speak. Read more »

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset enters mass production in May

Qualcomm’s most powerful platform to date is going to enter mass production this May. This was announced at a special event at Beijing by Yufei Wang, Qualcomm’s Senior Product Manager.

The Snapdragon 800 platform offers four Krait 400 processor cores that can be clocked up to 2.3GHz each. Those core can also maintain asynchronous clocks and thus save you some battery life. Read more »

Samsung provides accidental damage warranty for Galaxy S4 in certain markets

Samsung is extending the standard 24-month warranty with an additional clause for accidental damage in certain markets at no extra cost. The accidental damage covers broken displays and boards damaged by liquids.

Fieldrunners 2 finally available on Android

Sony Xperia ZL arrives at HQ, we take it for a spin

Sony Xperia ZL has landed at our office. It’s the not-so-tough Xperia Z sibling, powered by the same hardware platform and running on identical Android version with the same custom UI (launcher).

The Xperia ZL may not be water or dust-proof, but offers a few extra goodies over the Z model – a hardware camera key, an infrared port, а smaller footprint and a much better grip, thanks to the textured rear panel. Read more »

AT&T HTC One bootloader is unlockable via HTCDev

AT&T is offering a limited HTC One Developer Edition with unlocked bootloader and it is already available on pre-order. However, even if if you’ve decided to get the regular HTC One from AT&T and want to get its bootloader unlocked, there’s nothing to worry about.

A guy over the XDA Developers forums managed to get his hands on the AT&T’s HTC One a few days before the official launch on April 19 and confirmed the device’s bootloader is unlockable via the official HTCDev online tool. Read more »
