You can’t blame Nokia for bad organization. The Nokia World keynote went well and the Finish manufacturer has even taken care of posting a rich array of promo videos for their new toys to YouTube. In this case we’ll be focusing on the Asha family of S40 phones.

The Xperia active has kindly dropped by for a visit here at GSMArena’s headquarters in all of its IP67 certified glory. It’s water-proof up to a meter depth, it’s splash resistant too and can withstand some dirt in its face just in case.

It’s not the first time we’re finding ourselves in update fever amidst Android OS announcements. One factor has always been constant – the pure-blood Google phones will get there first. So now it’s only logical that after the Galaxy Nexus it will be the Nexus S’s turn to claim the brand new OS version, right?

Andy Rubin has said in an interview at the AsiaD conference that Ice Cream Sandwich will be released “a couple of weeks after” the Galaxy Nexus and no word on which phones will get the desired treatment first. An insider source has apparently disclosed to The Korea Times that Apple is indeed counting on Samsung to produce its quad-core custom A6 processor that should be showcased in the next iPhone and iPad incarnations – whether 5 and 3 or something involving the letter “S” and so forth.

A supposed exec from an Apple parts supplier has said that Apple is in talks with Samsung over the shipments of its A6 processor and that Apple still views Samsung as a “critical business partner”. Read more »

Starbucks UK just announced it will be offering its iOS-using customers a free download with every purchase. This download will be received via a “Pick of the Week” download card with a 60-day period in which the customer will be able to redeem their complimentary item.

The offer has been available for Starbucks US coffee houses since 2006 and comes to the UK a week after the company announced free Wi-Fi access without the need to register. Read more »

We have an LG Optimus 7 that’s been lying aimlessly around the office ever since we finished off its review back in last November. It was still stuck on the original WP7 build since it always refused to update. We were really starting to think there was something wrong with it but honestly, we didn’t really care enough to research it.

Until yesterday that is, when the Windows Phone Mango update finally went live and we all turned our heads to the forgotten Optimus 7 up there on the shelf. And being the lucky boy that I am (I’m the rookie around here), I got the nasty job of finding a way to update it no matter what.

Well, I’m telling you, I was at loose ends with this task. I spent several hours of my time reading forums and trying what not.. until… the solution just popped up in my RSS reader. Thanks to this great tip, I managed to get our Optimus 7 go through two separate updates before I finally got to the coveted Mango as well (and saved my job along the way). Read on to see how. Every major smartphone OS has its own go-to place for apps and the biggest among them – Android and iOS have enjoyed online appstores for a long time. Finally, Windows Phone has joined the ranks of those with online access with its own WP Web Marketplace.

The web Marketplace is now up and running and offers purchasable and free apps at the same time. Users can buy apps with the credit cards they’ve listed in their Windows Live IDs after which the Marketplace will send SMS or email to the device itself with download links. Read more »

HTC’s next event is set on taking place on October 6th at the Roundhouse venue in England’s capital London. The slogan of the official invite is “Come feel every beat” and the new product announcements will be combines with a nice and loud party.

The expected handset in the spotlight will probably be the Sensation XL (previously rumored as Runnymede or Bass), sporting the Beats treatment. We previously had an encounter with its dual-core sibling the Sensation XE.

Remember that Italian Samsung store that had its decor feature some unmistakable iOS icons? Sure, you do. It seems Samsung were rather quick to act on this one and fixed the whole thing by sticking the letter S (as in Galaxy S) over the Apple icons.

Well, I find the whole situation rather funny and had I seen the store in person I would have Facebooked the hell out of the wrong background just for the fun of it. But I bet funny it is not to the people who worked at the store and became the laughing stock of the Internet community. Read more »

The Motorola Xoom 2 tablet will, by the looks of it, be offered in two size versions – the 10.1″ and a 8.2″ one. Both devices seem to sport an iPhone-esque 9.3 mm thickness, which isn’t the best in tablet land but is still considered thinner than average.

The much anticipated WP 7.5 update – Mango is scheduled to start rolling out in a week or two says Eric Hautala (General Manager, Customer Experience Engineering at Microsoft).

When the update is released users will also get some model-specific software from the manufacturers of their smartphones. That is required as Mango is tuned to work with each phone and its apps perfectly. The update is said to arrive in the next couple of weeks . Read more »

Google+ has been around for about 3 months now but in field trial mode, which meant that you needed an invitation to join. But now it’s entered its beta stages and everyone can sing up for the social network project just by going to the web page of the service with no invitations required.

Google+ is still in toddler times and Google shares that there’s still a long way to go and much to accomplish, but the search giant hasn’t been wasting its time – there are now over 100 improvements and features. Read more »

Yesterday we heard that Samsung is planning to involve the yet unannounced iPhone 4S or 5 in the ongoing court battle between the two companies. The Koreans were reportedly getting ready to pursue a sales ban in their homeland. Today things are looking even more serious as Reuters reports that Samsung may actually open a wider front against Apple’s upcoming smartphone that includes Europe.

The patents in question refer to wireless standards and finding a workaround would be pretty tough for Apple. Reportedly, if Apple wants to use mobile communications with its next flagship phone they’ll have to use Samsung technology. Read more »
