Two sisters from Panama won the second LG Mobile WorldCup becoming the fastest texters on the planet. More than 13 million people from 16 countries participated in the tournament, where LG gave away $130,000 worth of prizess.
The second LG Mobile WorldCup finals were held in New York. Every country was represented by a team of two – the winners from previously held local tournaments.
On the yesterday’s PSP2 NGP announcement nobody talked about the elephant in the room a.k.a. the expected retail price. Well, you may relax a bit, as Sony has plans to make the portable console “affordable” since “the very beginning of the project in 2008”.
According to SCE’s president of worldwide studios Shu Yoshida, the next PSP “is not going to be $599”. He said this laughing, suggesting the price would be way below the current PlayStation 3.
O2 UK just announced it’s working on a nation-wide Wi-Fi service in the UK. Most importantly, the service will be free for everybody and not just for O2 customers. Rollout will begin immediately starting with the current hotspots in O2’s shops and own retail centers and will soon be expanded to include strategic places around the UK.
Their goal is to surpass the combined number of premium hotspots offered by BT Openzone and The Cloud in the country by 2013.

It wasn’t too long ago that Facebook denied any interest in creating its own smartphone and yet here we have another rumor of the development of one. Apparently one of the Boy Genius Report readers was a part of the focus group for the upcoming device. And then there’s this other report that HTC will be revealing two Facebook-branded hadnsets at the MWC.
According to City AM HTC will be revealing a couple of Android handsets carrying the Facebook logo. They will be high-end devices with specially modified interface, that will bring the Facebook integration to a new level. Using your friends profile data to write an email or call them is among the rumored features.
Update: Facebook has just issued another public statement, denying they are working on such phones. They did confirm that HTC are making use of some new API to extend the Facebook integration in their upcoming smartphones. Those devices won’t be carrying the blue F logo, though.
Google is shedding some light on what’s to come with the tablet-oriented Android 3.0 Honeycomb. There are new elements on the screen, designed to improve usability and also better utilize that extra screen real-estate. Google calls this “holographic UI design”.

Now I know you actually want to have the rumored Tegra 2-and-hopefully-SuperAMOLED-packing Galaxy Tab 2, but that won’t come out for a while now and chances are it will come out at a pretty steep price. So why don’t you check out this offer that Amazon.co.uk has for you?
The original Samsung Galaxy Tab is now available on the UK site of the company for a mere £360. That’s decidedly not bad for a device coming with a 7” SVGA screen, 1GHz Hummingbird chipset and 512 MB of RAM. Plus Samsung promised to update the Tab to Android 2.3 Gingerbread and 3.0 Honeycomb eventually.
Sony has finally unveiled the next-generation PSP. It’s codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable). The gadget looks much like its predecessor outside, but its core is able to compete with PlayStation 3.
The PSP NGP packs quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and quad-core PowerVR SGX543MP4+ graphics – the same specs rumored for the next generation of iPads and iPhones. There is no official word on the RAM yet, but the debug units packed 1GB LPDDR2. Still it’s possible the retail units come with 512MB.
Rovio obviously has got another update for the insanely popular Angry Birds game. The Angry Birds: Seasons expansion will be getting another episode, this time dedicated to Valentine’s day. The developers didn’t share much about it, but only posted a few teaser images on game’s Facebook account.
Palm and their webOS were expected to be the next big thing in smartphones, but unfortunately the company ran out of money before it managed to make an impact. However now that they have the backing of HP there is every chance that the excellent OS will get the chance to prove its worth in the tablet world.
Some photos of the upcoming HP Topaz tablet leaked, along with the detailed specs sheet and it all looks pretty promising. Built around the Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon platform, featuring two Scorpion cores running at 1.2 GHz and the new Adreno 220 GPU, the Topaz will have all the computing power it needs to run webOS on the 9.7” XGA (1024 x 768 pixels) screen.
I’ll admit it – if it wasn’t for socketing stuff in Diablo II with gems, I probably wouldn’t know much about rubies, sapphires and diamonds. And those are the staples of luxury phones – sapphire crystal for the screen, rubies for the bearings and inset diamonds for opulence.
