Here’s an iPad prototype with a functional 3D display, complete with the glasses

by 13 comments

One of the vendors, CPT, was displaying an iPad with a 3D display at the Display Taiwan show. Although they did their best to cover up the logos on the back there was no mistaking what was the first generation iPad. The standard display on the said iPad was replaced with a 3D panel which has to be seen through polarized glasses for its magic to work.

Do note that this is not the official Apple branded Magicâ„¢ and definitely not the next generation iPad, no matter what the video says. It’s not even the iPad 2 for that matter, just the first iPad running a 3D display. This was just done to get some eyeballs at the event and there is very little chance that Apple would consider a 3D display for their next iPad. Or even if they do, you can be damn sure it won’t require glasses. Check out the video of this prototype in action after the break. Read more »

by 296 comments

I love smartphones and I love Oatmeal’s comics and I know a lot of you do as well. So today when I came across his latest comic which talks about his love and hate for smartphones, I couldn’t help but share it with you.

Could this be the best iPhone 4 replica to date? And it runs Android! [VIDEO]

by 64 comments

If you’ve been hesitating between buying an Apple iPhone 4, but you’ve always admired and preferred the freedom Android provides, you can now find some peace and get the GooApple 3G (whew!). This unholy creature combines the body and looks of an iPhone 4 with the “soul”, as Steve Jobs likes to call the software, of Android.

The GooApple 3G comes from the great copyland of China and is replicated to such a degree that even screen protectors and cases designed for the iPhone 4 will match perfectly. When you turn it on, you might get fooled that it’s running iOS 4, but you’d be wrong. This thing runs Android 2.2 Froyo and is so deeply skinned to look like the real deal that it fills you with amazement. Read more »

Swedish mobile technologies giant Ericsson have seen fit to leverage their wide-spread presence in the mobile industry and take a step into the consumer market with the launch of a new mobile money scheme. by 276 comments

After announcing that the TouchPad will go on sale on the 1st of July, HP has now also revealed the official pricing for its accessories. The Touchstone charging dock will be priced at $80, the wireless keyboard will be $70, the case will be for $50 and the standard charger will cost you $30.

Along with the pricing, HP has also released a slew of YouTube videos showing the new TouchPad in action, doing stuff like multitasking, web browsing, gaming, typing, etc., you know, the stuff that you’d normally do on a tablet along with stuff that is exclusive to the TouchPad, such as the Touchstone technology and wireless charging. Must say though there is a heavy Apple vibe to all the videos. Even the music sounds similar, with the word “magic” being thrown around a few times. But don’t just take my word for it, check them out for yourself below. Read more »

Panasonic launches Lumix GF3 camera, packs in 12.1 megapixel sensor and 1080/60i video recording

by 14 comments

Panasonic has launched the new Lumix GF3, their smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera. Although it might seem as if it is the successor to the GF2, the GF3 will be selling alongside it and takes a more simplified approach to photography that would appeal to novices.

It has the same 12.1 megapixel sensor in a similar looking body but if you pay attention you will notice that there are some differences. For starters there is no hot shoe for you to attach a second, more powerful flash. The stereo microphones are replaced by a single one. And you will also notice Read more »

P.O.Cs for 3rd party notification and widget support in iOS 5, unofficially

by 24 comments

Apple announced that iOS 5 will be coming to i-devices everywhere by this fall. They failed to mention any access to public API’s for developers to toy with in time for summer app updates to take advantage of the new Notifications Center. However that hasn’t stopped some developers and hackers from already making it happen.

iOS 5 could have Nuance integration, Google Voice style speech-to-text input

by 11 comments

It seems there is one more thing that was not demoed in the iOS 5 keynote at WWDC 2011, nor was included in the developer beta and that one more thing is Nuance integration in iOS 5.

What this means is that iOS 5 may have speech-to-text input built-in, just like Android 2.1 and above devices. Now iOS does have some voice input capability, introduced by iOS 4 but it can only be used for certain functions, such as making calls or playing a track and even that is powered by Nuance. However, it seems with iOS 5 Read more »
