Nintendo to release five smartphone games in next two years

Back in March this year, Japanese gaming company Nintendo announced that it will finally start making games for smartphones, and now the company has revealed that it plans to release five such games by 2017, with the first one coming by this year’s end.

“You may think it is a small number,” said CEO and president Satoru Iwata, adding that “but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business.” Read more »

Ridesharing company Uber said to be bidding for Nokia’s HERE Maps

Just a couple of months after it acquired deCarta, a San Jose-based startup that provides a software platform focusing on location and map services, Uber is bidding for Nokia’s HERE Maps, according to a report from New York Times.

The ridesharing company has submitted a bid of around $3 billion, the report notes, adding that aside from Uber, a German automakers’ consortium consisting of companies such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, as well as an undisclosed private equity firm have also submitted their bids. Cyanogen partners with Truecaller to build a native smart dialer app

Cyanogen has inked a deal with Truecaller to work on a smart dialer app. Truecaller offers smart caller ID capability to let users see the caller’s name on a device’s screen and later report it in case of a spam call.

In the UK, the HTC Nexus 9 is now available for just £199.99

Now that it’s finally getting updated to the latest version of Android, perhaps the HTC Nexus 9 tablet might be an interesting purchase for you. If so, and if you live in the UK, you’re in luck – for there’s just been a price drop for the Nexus 9 over there.

You can now buy the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi-only model for only £199.99. That’s a great drop from the £319 level it launched at around six months ago. The downside to this is that there’s no telling how long this offer will last, so it might be gone tomorrow. Read more »

Amazon’s Fire Phone receives software update which includes Android 4.4 KitKat base

The Fire OS developed by Amazon and which runs on the company’s Fire Phone is based on Android, as you may know. Up until today, though, it was based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. But with a new update, it’s jumped to Android 4.4 KitKat. So while we’re still a long way from a Lollipop base, this is a big step forward.

That detail however isn’t the only new thing that’s in this update – and, by the way, Fire OS still doesn’t come with any of Google’s services, so for most people the underlying Android version may not be that relevant. Read more »

Samsung will launch the Gear A round smartwatch alongside the Galaxy Note 5

Samsung has been working on its next smartwatch for quite a while now, even confirming itself that the device will come with a round screen. The Korean company has said it wants to take its time with this one, hoping to get it just right, but now it seems the wearable has seen a delay of sorts.

While Samsung hasn’t announced an unveiling date for the Gear A yet, it was expected to come pretty soon. That’s not the case anymore, according to a new rumor claiming that it’s been delayed until the second half of the year. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 gets Android Lollipop update

Both the Wi-Fi-only as well as LTE-capable versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 are now in the process of receiving the update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. This comes after the much higher-end Galaxy Tab S line has been running Lollipop for a while now.

Second-gen Moto X gets yet another price cut in India

The Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) has received yet another price cut in India, where it is now being sold for INR 2,000 ($31) less than its usual price.

While the 16GB model is now available at INR 24,999 ($390), the 32GB variant will set you back INR 27,999 ($436). Both versions are available exclusively via Flipkart, which has not revealed the duration of the promotion. Read more »

Original Snake game maker to release Snake Rewind for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone

Before the Angry Birds and Candy Crush Saga, the most popular mobile game was Snake that came preloaded on the Nokia’s monochrome era phones. Taneli Armento, created the original Snake game for Nokia phones and has now teamed up with Rumilus Design to release the iconic Snake game for smartphones.

Snake Rewind is the modern day reboot of the original snake game and will certainly include the gameplay and the elements from of the original game.
