Now you can pre-register for upcoming apps on Google Play Store

Google has updated the Play Store with a new feature allowing publishers to put their apps for pre-registration.

The feature will not only be helpful for users, who’ll get notified when the app is actually released, but also for app developers, as it will help them gauge interest in their apps prior to release. There’s also an Unregister button in case you no longer want to receive alerts. Read more »

Android reportedly overtakes iOS in mobile ad revenue for first time

Android has for the first time surpassed iOS in terms of revenue generated from mobile ads, according to a latest report from mobile ad analytic firm Opera Mediaworks.

As per the report, Google’s mobile OS was responsible for 45.77% of the revenue generated from mobile ads in the first quarter of 2015, marginally higher than 45.44% brought in by Apple’s OS. BlackBerry, Symbian, and Windows rounded up the top five with 1.96, 1.27 and 0.09% revenue share, respectively. Read more »

This year LG focused on the design and user experience instead of packing just the latest tech available and you can tell it instantly when you see the LG G4.

While the LG G4 didn’t turn out the powerhouse some hoped for, it surely gathered lots of positive first impressions. Spotify offering 3-month trial of its Premium service for just 99 cents

Music-streaming company Spotify is now offering a 3-month subscription of its Premium service for a total of just 99 cents. The offer is only available to new subscribers in the US.

Needless to say, after the three-month period, you’ll be charged the normal rates – $9.99 a month. For those who aren’t in the know, Spotify Premium lets you stream ad-free music, with unlimited skips, and even download and listen to your tunes offline. Read more »

FBI arrests two men for allegedly breaking into Photobucket accounts

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested two men for allegedly breaking into accounts of some Photobucket users and selling off access to their private information without authorization.

According to the US Justice Department, 39-year-old Brandon Bourret from Colorado Springs, and 26-year-old Athanasios Andrianakis from Sunnyvale (California) developed, marketed, and sold a software application, dubbed Photofucket, which allowed viewers to circumvent the website’s privacy settings and hence enabled them access to users’ private and password-protected information. Now you can order food directly from within Google search results

Google has added a new feature allowing users to place food orders with select delivery services directly from its search results. “When you search for a nearby restaurant on your phone, you’ll see an option to Place an order in the search results. Just tap that, choose the delivery service and you’ll be taken to their website to complete the order,” the search giant said.

The feature is currently only available in the US, where Google has partnered with six food on-demand providers, including Seamless, Grubhub, Eat24, BeyondMenu, Delivery.com, and MyPizza.com. Read more »

Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge is now available in the US

Just as previously announced, the Samsung Gear VR headset for the company’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones is now available to buy in the US. Not only that, but it can also be found in stock, both at Best Buy and at Samsung’s own online store.

This version of the Gear VR, dubbed Innovator Edition, will only work with the Galaxy S6 or S6 edge – unlike the original Gear VR which was tailor-made for the Galaxy Note 4. Read more »

Latest BBM for Windows Phone update brings support for Channels

A few weeks after debuting it in the beta version of the app, BlackBerry has added support for Channels in the latest update to its main BBM for Windows Phone app. The feature is already available in the iOS and Android versions of the messaging app.

At Microsoft’s Ignite conference, Microsoft employee and developer evangelist Jerry Nixon said that “Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10.” That sounds like Microsoft won’t be releasing any more versions of Windows 10, which is true more or less.

Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, in the sense there won’t be any major releases of Windows hereafter. Microsoft plans to turn Windows into a service, where it will continue to get updates but there won’t be any major releases. Read more »
