Apple will be acquiring the Swell Radio service, according to the sources at Recode. The deal is worth $30 million and the app will shut down this week as part of it.
Swell Radio is a news and podcast streaming service. It takes content from sources such as iTunes, NPR, ABC, ESPN, BBC, CBC, TED and more and turns them into personalized streaming radio playlists based on your listening preferences. Read more »

The LG G Pad 10.1 is the biggest member in this year’s G Pad lineup by LG. Despite having the largest screen (10.1″ vs 8″ and 7″) it carries the same underwhelming resolution of 1280x800px as the rest of the new G Pad pack.
The quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset is in charge of running everything while the latest Optimus UI on top of Android 4.4.2 KitKat adorns the software side of things. The Grovemade Walnut case for iPad Air is designed to be a more distinctive alternative to Apple’s own Smart Case for the slate. As its name suggests, the high-end accessory is handcrafted in the United States from natural walnut.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Grovemade designs and creates accessories exclusively for Apple devices. The small company’s products use locally sourced materials (there’s plenty of timber in Oregon) and combine eye-grabbing design and high ergonomics. Read more »

Apple has acquired BookLamp, a startup that has been developing big data style book analytics services. The deal is said to have cost the Cupertino giant somewhere around $10 million to $15 million.
BookLamp is known for their work with Book Genome Project, a platform that allowed users to find suggestions for books to read based on natural language analysis of other titles. Read more »
One of Windows Phone 8.1′s headline features is Cortana, the Siri-like voice assistant built into the OS. Unfortunately, the feature so far only works in the US, but it will soon be coming to the UK, with a difference.
As you may know, the US version of Cortana is voiced by Jen Taylor, the same person who provided the voice for Cortana in the Halo series of games, from where the feature is borrowed for Windows Phone. Understandably, the UK version of this feature will have another voice with a native accent to make it more familiar to users. Read more »
Today we have the LG G Pad 7.0 at HQ. This is the latest portable tablet from LG but it’s safe to say we’re expecting a higher-end portable tablet yet as the G Pad 7 sheds the premium specs package in favor of a very affordable price.
The LG G Pad 7.0 base specs may not sound like much with only a 800 x 1280 pixels screen and a Snapdragon 400 processor, but LG has equipped it with several extra features to make up for those – an IR blaster on the top, stereo speakers on the back and an IPS matrix for superior screen viewing angles all for under 200 euro.
