Skype for Android updated with picture-in-picture view

Microsoft has updated Skype for Android with support for picture-in-picture, allowing you to keep a video call going while multitasking.

This means that now you can come out of the Skype window in the middle of a video call, switch over to another app, and continue with the conversation. The feature, which is already available on tablets, should be rolling out to smartphones very soon. Read more »

Twitter Offers launches giving you discounts through tweets

Moving steadily on with its newfound commerce focus, Twitter has today announced a new service called Twitter Offers. This basically means businesses can embed discount coupons into tweets, but redeeming them is easier than if you were to use actual coupons.

LG’s KizOn wearable for children makes it to Verizon as the GizmoPal

Today Verizon has announced the LG GizmoPal, a specialized wearable band for children. If it looks familiar, that’s because it’s basically nothing but a rebranded LG KizOn – which was made official in South Korea in July.

Verizon will start selling the GizmoPal online tomorrow, in blue and pink, and it can be yours for $79.99. In stores, it will first be available in select locations in the Midwest, followed by a proper nationwide launch on December 11. Read more »

Dropbox integration with Microsoft Office now live in mobile apps

Earlier this month, Dropbox and Microsoft announced a broad partnership that would see the two companies’ mobile apps working together – allowing you to edit Office files from the Dropbox app and access your Dropbox from Office. This integration is now live.

The latest version of the Dropbox app for iOS and Android lets you open any Office document, spreadsheet, or presentation. And the new Edit icon (seen in the image above) lets you start editing stuff in the latest Office apps. Read more »

Here’s what Best Buy will offer on Black Friday

Black Friday deals have spread across the world, but the US still gets the best offers. Like a Samsung Galaxy S5 for $1 from Best Buy – with a 2-year contract, of course, but carrier stores still have it listed at $200. This offer is for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. For $26 total you can get an S-View Flip case too.

Best Buy also has some salivating offers for pre-paid phones on multiple carriers. The cheapest is LG Realm for Boost Mobile for $20, but you can grab an LTE-enabled HTC Desire 510 on Virgin Mobile for $30 (note that the US version of the phone is not 64-bit like the European version). Samsung sued by Milk Studios for name misuse

Milk Studios, an advertising agency based in New York, has filed a lawsuit against Samsung over the use of their name.

The Korean giant has, according to an official statement “internationally, willingly and knowingly” been using the Milk brand mane in its services. Read more »

Sony Pictures Entertainment under massive hack attack, employees sent home

Just a few months after Sony’s Playstation network was knocked offline after being hit by a DDoS attack, hackers have compromised Sony Pictures Entertainment’s computer network, stealing sensitive data and forcing the company to shut down its systems. According to a Reddit user, who claims to be a former Sony Pictures worker, the following image appeared on all corporate systems:

The hackers claim to be part of a group called #GOP, which refers to Guardians of Peace apparently, although the request referenced in the image isn’t yet known. According to The Next Web, the ZIP files mentioned in the image contain documents pertaining to financial records along with private keys for access to servers. Read more »

Apple App Store boasts record app downloads in October

Mobile marketing company Fiksu is traditionally reporting on Apple’s App Store Competitive Index, which also shows the number of free app downloads. For October, that number is a record high 7.8 million per day. The data is measured based on the top 200 free iOS apps.

Fiksu points out October’s result is 42% higher than the one from September, when the App Store saw just over 5.5 million free app downloads per day. Read more »

Monument Valley ‘Forgotten Shores’ update now available on Android

One of the best games to have come out this year recently got a major update in the form of eight additional levels that could be purchased for just $2 more dollars within the app. However, the Forgotten Shores update for Monument Valley was only available on iOS, until now.

If you have purchased the game, you will get the update that downloads the additional levels. If you are not interested in the additional levels there is no point downloading the update because it downloads the additional levels that only unlock after you make the payment. However if you played the original game and enjoyed it the additional levels are highly recommended. Read more »

Apple released a duo of brand new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus ads in time for the holiday shopping season. Once again, the Cupertino giant’s marketing efforts feature the voices of Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake.
