BlackBerry partnered with the Selfridges chain of stores in the UK for an exclusive early launch of its QWERTY-packing BlackBerry Q10 and it’s been a hit. The stores reported that its initial stock ran out in 2 hours, a record for tech items in the store.

Android custom ROM developers CyanogenMod have added support for yet another Android smartphone in their list of supported devices for their CM10.1 ROM. Starting today, you will be able to install CM10.1 on an Oppo Find 5 as well.
The Oppo Find 5 is one of the best Android smartphones available on the market today, with a 5.0-inch, FullHD display, quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB RAM and a 13 megapixel camera part of the spec sheet. Recently, HTC launched the developer edition of the HTC One in the US. This model was mostly identical to the model sold by the carriers, but comes with the network and the bootloader unlocked.
Now, HTC has provided the RUU (ROM Update Utility) and the full ROM for the HTC One developer edition on their developer website. This would allow users to restore their devices safely in case things go wrong while flashing custom ROMs. Read more »

The smartphone has a similar battery to its Xperia Z sibling – the 2370mAh capacity of the Xperia ZL unit is just 40 mAh more than the waterproof flagship offers. Samsung is extending the standard 24-month warranty with an additional clause for accidental damage in certain markets at no extra cost. The accidental damage covers broken displays and boards damaged by liquids.
The new warranty will apply over 15 African countries and comes with a few limitations. Read more »
An alleged (that being the key word here) internal test on the Samsung Galaxy S4, performed by Samsung, revealed that the company thinks the device is good but not quite the best.
The report acknowledges that the device is good, but doubts that “this model can revolutionize the market”. Still the study concludes that Samsung is conquering the smartphone market and leading among manufacturers of Android devices. Read more »
Apple has released a new TV ad for the iPhone. After a series of short ads that quickly ran through the various apps and features on the phone, the new ad takes a leisurely approach at showcasing just one feature of the phone: the camera.
Unlike Samsung, whose ads have now stopped making sense entirely, the new iPhone ad shows people actually using the phone. You can see people taking photos with the device in every day conditions, editing them on the phone and then sharing them. Read more »
The purported Motorola Phone X might be called simply “Google X” as an AnTuTu score card suggests. The card, which emerged today, gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the first Google flagship designed by Motorola.
Additionally, the benchmark reports that the device is running Android 5.0.1. This gives everyone a tiny bit of hope that the next Android iteration would be ready for prime time at Google I/O 2013 in May. Read more »
Yesterday saw the launch of the first two Firefox OS phones, the Keon and Peak from GeeksPhone. There were some questions just how much demand there will be for yet another OS on the market and if this launch is any indication, the answer is “enough.”
The stock of the two phones ran out just a few hours after they went on sale yesterday, though the numbers sold were not announced. Still, much like other GeeksPhone handsets, these are primarily oriented towards devs, so even if there weren’t that many phones at least it shows good developer interest. Read more »
Nokia has just announced the phone it teased this Monday: the new Nokia Asha 210. It’s a feature phone with a hardware QWERTY and a taste for social networking. The 210 is the first phone with a dedicated WhatsApp button, which will be swapped out with a Facebook button in some markets.
Nokia released a hands-on video that goes over the headlining features of the Asha 210. For example, all 210 phones will come with WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter integration regardless of what function the hardware button has. Read more »
