Computex will officially starting tomorrow on June 5 but Acer has already kicked things off with a whole slew of Windows 8 based products.
First of all are the two Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks. Available in two sizes, 13.3-inch and 11.6-inch, these are the thinnest and smallest, respectively, Full HD touch Ultrabooks in the world. Both models feature an aluminum unibody design but the 13.3-inch model also uses a glass top. The 13.3-inch model also has a display that tilts all the way back so you can use the touchscreen more comfortably. Read more »
Ivy Bridge reviews mostly agree that the new architecture doesn’t overclock as well as Sandy Bridge, but that didn’t stop intrepid overclocker HiCookie from reaching 7.032GHz – a world record – with an Intel Core i7 3770K running on a Gigabyte motherboard. He also set a world record for DDR3 overclocking while he was at it.
The world records have been validated by CPUz and Canard PC and you can watch them being set on video (after the break). Read more »
Researchers at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), have refined a technology that allows them to create a new, faster transistor.
Graphene’s electron mobility is more than 200 times faster than silicon, and semiconductor devices with this technology are expected to have highly increased performance. Read more »
AMD just unveiled its second generation lineup of APUs. The replacement for the current Llano series Accelerated Processing Units is aimed at people seeking budget PCs and notebooks, which bears the name Trinity and boasts better efficiency and speed.
In fact, the Trinity packs double the performance per watt of Lliano, which is quite an impressive achievement. Therefore, AMD’s new APU offering should impose an interesting threat to Intel’s Ivy Bridge in ultrathin notebooks and economy PC builds. Read more »
NVIDIA has announced the third graphics card in the Kepler series called the GeForce GTX 670. As you can tell, it sits below the current fastest single GPU graphics card, the GTX 680, and is priced a $100 less at $399. The GTX 670 is meant to compete against AMD’s Radeon HD 7950.
The GPU on the GTX 670 is the same 28nm GK104 GPU found on the GTX 680, except it is clocked slightly lower and certain features are toned down to get a slightly lower performance but at the same time, lower power consumption as well. Read more »
Nvidia announced its newest flagship graphics card at the NVIDIA Gaming Festival 2012 in Shanghai, the GeForce GTX 690. Combining two GTX 680s on a single card, the 690 is going to be one hell of a performer.
Combining two chips on a board is always tricky business and contrary to what one might expect the performance is not exactly double that of a single GPU card. In fact it’s usually less than the two cards running in SLi mode. But with the GTX 690, NVIDIA is aiming to get performance that will be equivalent to running two GTX 680 in SLi, while maintaining the convenience and lower cost of having a single card in your system. Originally, Intel was supposed to launch the new CPU family on April 29, but after the numerous delays, doing it a bit early won’t hurt anyone. Read more »
AMD have announced that their upcoming processor and GPU combo chips, which shipped last quarter to OEMs, are just about to hit market availability.
Set to sport superior performance-per-watt over the previous generation A-Series APUs, the new Trinity line should find a home in upcoming ultrathin notebooks and tablets. Read more »
Following the launch of the most powerful single-core GPU on the market to date, the GeForce GTX 680, the Chinese graphics card manufacturer Colorful is taking Nvidia’s PCB design to a whole new level of awesome.
What you are seeing is the Kudan iGame GeForce 680 GTX. It is powered by the GK104 core and contains the mind-boggling 1536 Cuda cores bundled with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. But what makes it even more special is its overclocking abilities. Read more »
After the launch of the Nvidia GTX 680, the initial reviews that came out painted pretty much the same picture, that this new graphics card is better in almost every way compared to the AMD Radeon HD 7970 and is currently the fastest single GPU graphics card available in the market today.
But even before we could stop ogling at the amazing benchmark scores, Hardware.Info has come out with a new review, where they test not one or two but four GTX 680 in a four-way SLI configuration and then they compared it with the HD 7970, which too was set up in a quad-CrossFire configuration. After an unofficial sneak peak yesterday, the first of the Kepler series of graphics cards, the Nvidia GTX 680, has now been officially announced. This is Nvidia’s flagship graphics card for now and is the fastest they have ever built. It uses the 28nm fabrication process, a first for an Nvidia GPU, along with some other new tech, such as GPU Boost.
What GPU Boost does is it automatically increases the clock speed of the GPU when it is under load, from a base clock speed of 1006MHz to 1058MHz to provide better frame rates. But what this feature also does is it reduces the clock speed when the GPU is not being taxed, dropping down all the way to 324MHz during idle. Read more »
The highly anticipated GeForce 600 ‘Kepler’ series GPU from Nvidia is on the brink of being launched with the flagship GTX 680 being the first out of the gate. With this new GPU, Nvidia plans on reclaiming the title of the world’s fastest single GPU graphics card, beating the recently launched AMD Radeon HD 7970.
But before the wraps come off, someone has already managed to snag the official video of the GTX 680 and uploaded it on YouTube. Read more »
Seagate has made a breakthrough squeezing one terabit (1 trillion bits) of memory on a square inch of platter (which is, as the PR would gladly point out, a lot more than all the stars in our Milky Way galaxy). To achieve this Seagate uses the completely new Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology, as opposed to the current Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) tech. This means the very first 3.5” generation of these new drives will offer north of 6TB capacity.
We all knew this moment was coming for quite some time. The current generation of hard drives reached its limits – the 3.5” PMR drives could offer maximum of 3TB storage (or 750GB for the 2.5” ones). Read more »
Intel’s research teams have been hard at work bringing their latest project to fruition and what you see here is the fruits of their labour. CPU and a more power efficient and faster WiFi radio, both squeezed onto a single chip.
Intel call the chip Rosepoint and despite it being still strictly in the concept stage right now, there’s definite potential for the technology to make its way to market in the next few years. Read more »
