Along with the Vibe X smartphone, Lenovo also announced the 7″ S5000 tablet. The tablet shares the Vibe’s sleek design and while it’s not as thin as the smartphone (the S5000 is still pretty thin at 7.9mm), it’s very light for a 7″ tablet, tipping the scales at just 246g.
The tablet features 3G HSPA+ connectivity with voice call support (in select countries, the US isn’t getting it). There will also be a Wi-Fi only version. Read more »
XOLO has announced the company’s first Android tablet, the XOLO Tab. The XOLO Tab comes with an 8.0-inch, 1024×768 resolution IPS display.
On the inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8225Q SoC with a 1.2GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A5 CPU and Adreno 203 GPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal memory with microSD card slot, 3G connectivity, 4,000mAh battery and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. When it first came out a couple of years ago, the original Samsung Galaxy Note was welcomed with mixed feeling and reactions. Back then nobody would have thought that today we would be cheering the third installment in the lineup with an even bigger screen. Well times change, and in this industry, times literally flee.

The high-end smartphone spectrum has never been this charming, as we have the freshly announced Sony Xperia Z1 rivaling the newborn LG G2 and the still hot Samsung Galaxy S4. Each of them is nothing short of a powerhouse and each of them has enough charisma to charm the birds out of the trees.

Samsung announced yesterday the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition – its latest attempt to occupy your living room by providing a one-stop entertainment and media consumption tablet device. We’ve decided to pit it against Apple’s and Sony’s best in a virtual Mexican stand off so we can gauge what amount of novelty does the newcomer bring to the (living room) table.
Samsung has long learned the cold hard truth that a 10.1″ tablet must be able to do pretty much everything you throw at it, and thus the Note series of slates was born. Sony agrees with this as well, but doesn’t bet as much on the software chips as it does on the hardware ones. Its Xperia Tablet Z offering is both ultra thin and waterproof, the second one being a true rarity in the tablet space.
Apple, as a pioneer in the mass consumer tablet space, is pretty comfortable with its 4th generation iPad. The company is expected to unveil the next-generation iPad in October, so for now we’ll take what it offers and throw it in the mix. Read more »

Sony officially unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1 at its press conference at IFA, Berlin, yesterday. The cameraphone packs a punch with its Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.2 GHz along with Adreno 330 graphics and 2 GB of RAM.

While Samsung was announcing its Galaxy Gear smartwatch yesterday, Qualcomm was busy announcing its own smartwatch, called the Toq. Pronounced as “talk”, the Qualcomm Toq pairs with your existing Android smartphone and brings all your notifications where you can see them at a glance.
The main feature of the Qualcomm Toq is the unique Mirasol display. Developed by Qualcomm, Mirasol is a type of interferometric modulator display that works without the need of a backlight. Just like e-paper displays, Mirasol displays can stay on constantly without requiring power and are perfectly visible even under bright sunlight. But Mirasol goes one step ahead of current e-paper displays and is capable of displaying full color and it also uses the ambient light as a backlight, thus significantly reducing the power consumption. Nokia these days has become notorious for mocking its competitors, especially Samsung, at every opportunity they can find. The most recent example was when they parked a truck with a Lumia 1020 ad mocking the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom right behind it in the UK.
The latest stab comes in the form of a Twitter image uploaded by Nokia’s German account. The image depicts a Samsung Galaxy S4 broken in half over a red background with a caption ‘Have a break, have a…’. If it’s not clear already, the image is supposed to mock the new Android 4.4 Kit Kat that was announced by Google a couple of days ago. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the third device running on the Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 800 chipset we meet. It is powered by a quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics and has 3GB of RAM. It also packs a 1080p display, so we can easily compare the performance of the new chipset to the old generation processors.

Day after day, Oppo continues to tease its upcoming N1 cameraphone. Today, the company released the second teaser video, which strongly suggests the Oppo N1 is going to flaunt an aluminum body.
The video shows what seems to be an Oppo factory, where the build process of the N1 takes place. In it, we get a short glimpse of the phone’s back panel. Notably, it features two cutouts – one for its alleged 12MP camera and one for the LED flash. Read more »
