Nikon has announced a new mid-range DSLR – The D5200 – that bridges the gap between the company’s aging D5100 and D7000 models. The D5200 looks similar to the D5100 but comes with a whole bunch of updates, including a new 24.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor.

Inside there is a new 39-point AF system, along with an EXPEED 3 processor that allows the camera to capture up to 5 fps. There is also a new 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor for better exposure, autofocus and white balance. The camera also records videos up to 60fps in 1080i in stereo sound. Read more »

When Apple launched the new Lighting connector with the iPhone 5, they immediately made all the existing accessories for iOS devices obsolete (unless you plan on using one of the optional adapters). However, it looks like it’s not going to take take long for accessory makers respond to the change and come out with new accessories designed for the new interface.

Continuing the integration with important third-party applications, Apple is said to include another new feature in Siri in the upcoming iOS 6.1 update. While currently you can get movie ticket reviews and timings with iOS 6.1, in future you will also be able to purchase tickets through Siri.

This new feature comes courtesy of Fandango. You will see a button to purchase tickets in Siri when you search for show times or movie reviews. Moreover, you can also speak directly to Siri and ask to book the tickets for a particular movie. Read more »

After taking the arcade racing genre by storm with the original Need for Speed Most Wanted back in 2005, EA rebooted the series this year and put the steering wheel in the able hands of Criterion Games, makers of the popular Burnout games as well as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

This time, however, the action won’t be limited to the big screen. A mobile version of the game has been released for iOS and Android and although it’s not exactly the same game as the console version, you will find similar races, cop chases and a great roster of cars in what promises to be one of the best racing games on the mobile platform. Google has introduced a new feature on Android 4.2 that aims to reduce the instances of malware running on Android device.

In their previous attempt, the company had added a feature on the Play Store called Bouncer, which checked apps on the Play Store for malicious content. This time, the service will be running on the device itself and will be checking sideloaded apps instead. Read more »

Samsung has announced a new accessory for the Galaxy Note II called the Smart Dock. This allows you to plug your phone into the dock and then use it as a makeshift desktop PC or media center.

The Smart Dock uses the microUSB port to interface with your Galaxy Note II. On the back is an HDMI port that will output 1080p video stream to a monitor or a TV. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack for outputting stereo sound. The microUSB port on the back lets you connect the dock to a charger or a computer. Read more »

Archos has announced their upcoming Android tablet on their Facebook page. Called the Archos 80 Cobalt, the tablet has an 8-inch, 1024 x 768 resolution display and runs on Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Inside, the Archos 80 Cobalt runs on an unspecified SoC with a dual-core 1.6GHz CPU and a quad-core GPU with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB of internal storage space with microSD card slot. There is a 2 megapixel camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front. Read more »

Google has released a new version of the Search app for iOS and it brings with it a greatly improved voice search experience that you may have experienced on Android devices running Jelly Bean.

The new Google Search app for iOS features a prominently placed voice search button below the search bar and one tap on it lets you speak your query to the device. Your words appear on the screen as soon as you speak them and then the app searches for the answer. For questions with short answers you also get a voice response, just like on Android. Read more »

Just when you though you couldn’t take any more of Angry Birds in any form here comes another new game. As we have mentioned it before, Angry Birds Star Wars is the fifth game in the Angry Birds series by Rovio and is based on, no prices for guessing, Star Wars.

Sonic Jump is the latest installment in the series of Sonic games for the mobile platform. However, unlike the other games that came before it, this is a brand new game and not just a port from some other platform. Update: It seems this is a remake of a J2ME game released on mobile several years ago.

With Sonic Jump, the series has taken a new direction, and I mean literally at that. Instead of the previous side scrolling or the third person sprinting, Sonic Jump takes you straight up, as you vertically jump from one platform to another. Apple has put up the iPad mini on its online store. You can choose between the Wi-Fi or the Wi-Fi + 3G models. Each comes in 16, 32 and 64GB capacities. You also have a choice of two colors, black & slate and white & silver.

The Wi-Fi-only version prices are $329, $429 and $529 respectively for each of the storage capacities and it ships next week on November 2. The 3G models are priced at $449, $549 ad $649 respectively and will ship in mid-November. You can choose from three carriers in the US: AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. Read more »

Samsung has released three new ads for the Galaxy S III in the US. After making fun of iPhone buyers ad nauseam in the previous ads, these new ads actually concentrate on the phone itself and its key features.
