Bentley shoots its short documentary entirely on the iPhone 5s, edits it on the iPad Air

We have seen instances before where the iPhone camera was used to do professional recording with stunning results. The latest example comes from Bentley Motors, that recorded a short documentary on its Bentley Mulsanne entirely on an iPhone 5s. And then edited it on the iPad Air.

The three minute long documentary focuses on the company’s approach to cars and the level of quality that you can expect from them. You see the two Mulsannes going around the streets of New York, with swooping camera shots in lovely film noir style. if you didn’t know better, you’d never know the video was shot on a phone. Google Camera update brings 16:9 mode, self timer

Google recently updated the stock camera app in Android with a completely redesigned version. Unfortunately, the update got rid of half the features in the camera app, and it didn’t have a lot to begin with.

The latest update attempts to fix that but doesn’t really try too hard. One of the features that was taken away and is back now is self timer. You can now choose from 3 or 10 seconds timer options. The white balance option is still missing and you can forget about having things like ISO, shutter speed and metering options. Read more »

Google reveals its self-driving car

Google first announced its plans in 2010 to make a self-driving car that, well, drives itself around and the passengers just have to sit and enjoy the ride without worrying about driving the vehicle. After years in development, Google has revealed an early version of its prototype vehicle.

The car, other than its self-driving ability is not much. It’s a cute little hatchback with just two seats inside and a screen to show the route. It doesn’t have any creature comforts on the inside and that is on purpose as this one is more for testing and demonstration purposes. Read more »

Sony XSP-N1BT is a 2-DIN Bluetooth smartphone dock for your car

Sony has released the XSP-N1BT 2-DIN car audio receiver, which is essentially a Bluetooth dock for your smartphone. The receiver allows you to clamp your smartphone to the front and play audio through the car speakers.

The XSP-N1BT has dock connector that works exclusively with Xperia phones and also charges them. Other phones do work with the receiver but you won’t be able to charge them. The pairing is taken care of by NFC and the audio transfer is over Bluetooth. You control the basic functions of the smartphone, such as music, calls, maps, etc. through Sony’s app, which can be installed on any Android smartphone. Read more »

Watch the latest Watch Dogs launch trailer here

Watch Dogs (or Watch_Dogs, for the more pedantic among you) is just three days away from launch and Ubisoft has released the final launch trailer for the game. After months of delay, the game will finally be available next week on the PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.

For those who are not aware, Watch Dogs is an open world action game where you have control over the city’s central operating system, allowing you to control everything, from traffic signals to street lights, security cameras, locked doors, cars, trains and what have you. You even get detailed information on every person around you can eavesdrop on their phone conversation. Read more »

Springpad to shut down on June 25

Popular note-taking service Springpad will be shutting down on June 25, the company confirmed through a blog post. The service was created over six years ago and since then has had over 5 million users.

Once shut down, all features will stop working and the data will be deleted from their servers. Springpad is working on an export tool that will be available for users to download and migrate their data elsewhere. The company will inform users about the availability of this tool via their blog. Samsung reportedly working on its own VR headset

With things in the virtual reality headset space starting to get interesting, what with Facebook acquiring Oculus VR and Sony working on one of its own, it wasn’t long before others decided to try their hand at it as well.

It’s no surprise then that Samsung has decided to throw its hat in the VR headset ring, considering the company’s reputation of throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. According to a new report by Engadget, Samsung is working on its own VR headset and that it will be announced some time this year. Read more »

Watch the new ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ trailer here

Rocksteady has released a trailer of its upcoming game, the fourth and final game in the Batman Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Knight. The video features a voiceover by Arkham Knight, voiced by John Noble, telling the people of Gotham to abandon the city. And then Batman arrives for “evening the odds”.

The new trailer gives a better look at the new character designs, particularly the new Batsuit. But most importantly, it gives a better look at the new Batmobile, which will play a major role in this game. Read more »

Apple updates iWork for iCloud

Some of you may not know this but Apple has a fully functional version of iWork, including Pages, Numbers and Keynote, available for free on the iCloud website for anyone with an Apple ID to use. The documents created can be accessed from any web browser or from iWork apps on iOS and OS X.

Apple has now issued an update that adds some new features and improves existing ones. One of the changes is the option to collaborate documents with up to a 100 people, which was previously limited to 50 people. Read more »

Gmail for Android brings Save to Drive option, RTL language support

Google has released an update for the Gmail app on Android. One of the main additions is the presence of a Save to Drive option. Now, along with being able to save attachments to your internal memory, you will also be able to save a file on your Google Drive account, which will save space on your device and make the file accessible from any device that can connect to Google Drive.

Another new feature is support for RTL or right-to-left languages. This includes Arabic, Hebrew and Persian, which are written and read from right to left. It adjusts the UI so it feels more natural to use RTL languages. Read more »

YouTube allegedly acquiring Twitch for over a billion dollars

YouTube is in the process of acquiring Twitch, according to a report by Variety. YouTube will allegedly be paying over $1 billion dollars. The deal will be all-cash and is expected to be announced “imminently”.

Twitch is a video streaming that lets you watch live gameplay videos from gamers around the world. You can upload games from your PC, Xbox or PlayStation for others to watch and comment on. It is especially popular for streaming live gaming tournaments. Read more »

WhatsApp removed from Windows Phone Store due to technical issues

If you find yourself searching for the popular messaging app WhatsApp on the Windows Phone store, you will notice that it is no longer available.

According to WhatsApp, there were some technical issues with the app, due to which it had to be pulled from the store. WhatsApp is now working with Microsoft to resolve these issues before the app can be submitted again. Read more »

‘Thomas Was Alone’ for iPad game review

Thomas Was Alone is a popular indie game title that was first released on Steam back in 2012. The game went on to win many awards, including the BAFTA Games Award, and was praised for its gameplay, narration and the superb soundtrack.

After being released on the PS3 and the PSVita last year, Thomas Was Alone was released on iPad this month. This is the first time the game is being released on a full touchscreen device and as such, features brand new controls for the new platform. We decided to take it for a spin and see how Thomas’ story plays out on the iPad. Read more »

Flappy Bird to return with multiplayer support, to be less addictive

Flappy Bird is back in the news again, with the developer Dong Nguyen announcing that the game will be making a return. After initially pulling the game from the stores for being too addictive, the developer now has a new version he says will be less addictive.

One addition to the game will be a multiplayer mode. How it will be implemented and how the rest of the game will be different is not known. Read more »

Apple releases OS X 10.9.3 update with improved 4K support

Apple has released an update to OS X Mavericks that brings the version number to 10.9.3. The update is now available to download through the Mac App Store.

One of the major changes in this update is improved support for 4K monitors. What this means is that now if you connect a 4K monitor to a compatible Mac (the 2013 Mac Pro or the 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display) you will get the HiDPI ‘Retina’ option instead of standard 1:1 scaling. Read more »
