The Nokia Reader is an application for receiving RSS news feeds on Symbian^3 devices and is part of the Ovi Notifications Support Package (ONSP). It just received an update, which improves overall performance and fixes the bugs in the previous version.

The list of improvements include connectivity, a bug that forced the user to re-enter his/hers Nokia Account credentials and force stop issues, which needed a reinstall of the previous version. Read more »

The Sony Playstation Network was expected to be up and running again this week. However it seems that Sony didn’t realize the extent, to which the security of the network was compromised and will hold off restarting it and won’t meet the deadline it set for itself last week.

Sprint and Motorola unveiled two new Motorola QWERTY bars today, dubbed XPRT and Titanium. The first one will be available 5 June from Sprint for $129.99, the details on the Titanium will be revealed at a later time.

The Motorola XPRT is a CDMA QWERTY messenger, running on Android 2.2 Froyo. It has a capacitive multi-touch display, sporting a 3.1” diagonal of HVGA (320×480) resolution. Google Maps for Android 5.4.0 has been released today. It brings a unified search history, enhanced details for businesses on the map and a means to report wrong map information and missing places.

The first change means that your maps searches will be saved to your Google account so that you can access them on other devices such as on your computer or another Android phone or tablet. This is a good addition as it facilitates our everyday use of Google Maps without the need to go through every address anew after switching devices. Read more »

LG has just announced their new Blade series laptops, which both feature extremely thin bezels, displays and bodies and a cool, brushed metallic casing.

The P430 and P530 both offer Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 Sandy Bridge processor options, Windows 7 inside, metal casings and 1366×768 resolution displays. The bezel around both screens is just 10 mm thin, while the displays use LG’s Super Slim LED LCD technology and are just 4.5 mm thick. Read more »

Some good news comes from India today, where Ranjit Yadav, local head of Samsung Mobile there, shared to the press that the new Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 tablets will launch next month. Sure, he meant India, but for all we know, the world-wide Western launch date shouldn’t be much different than the Indian one. So far all we had in terms of schedule from Samsung was simply Q2.

Samsung has released yet another ad for their flagship extraordinaire, the Galaxy S II. This time the main focus is on the industry-leading (so far) Exynos chipset, packing a dual-core processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz and the HSPA+ internet speeds. The ad promises there will be no more breaks, just smooth sailing.

The video is shot on a square in front of a beautiful building in some desirable location (probably) and displays two sets of dance groups. One of them represents the hiccup performance with the brakes, stuttering while dancing and then comes the zippier, more fluid one, which dances circles around the first one. Read more »

You may not have heard of the Bing Maps Ortho Project but it’s goal is to up the ante on the digital maps scene by delivering high-resolution ground images of continental USA and Western Europe. Imagine the currently available Satellite views and imagine you could use those to zoom in even further down… Way in, actually, as the imagery is all shot from a small plane, not a satellite…

For this project Microsoft has equipped planes with specially designed 220 MP cameras and 13 PCs each. The planes were sent off to 5.8 km high in the sky to cover about 18 million square km. Do I hear those numbers crunching in your head? Yeah, the project is that optimistic and capturing those image data and importing it to Bing Maps it will cost Microsoft just about $130 million bucks. The Apple iPad 2 is now on the shelves in 12 new countries. The new wave started with Japan yesterday and was followed by Hong Kong, Macau, India, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Israel, Turkey and UAE the Apple slate today – on 29 April. The iPad 2 is also available online via the respective Apple online stores (where those are available).

The release date for Japan got pushed back from the first wave, due to the natural disaster that occurred there. But the country is now getting the new iPad 2 and queues were formed in front of Apple retail stores from day one. Read more »

Google has released a dedicated app for their Google Docs service. It used to be a web app, but now it can be installed through the Android Market and has everything a standalone app has, down to the homescreen widget.

Using the online editor of the Google Docs app you’ll be able to open, view and edit documents from your Google account. You’ll also be able to share docs with your contacts straight from the app. Read more »

Google has conducted a survey on the use of smartphones and how they influence our lives and how we influence businesses with our smartphones daily. The survey was carried out by Ipsos OTX and it features many statistical facts and a short video, explaining the results. Of ocurse, the research was focused on marketing and it aims to explore and promote the smartphone as the next-gen ad platform and a source of new revenue for Google (their business is ads, you know).
