New iClould tool lets you see if a used iPhone has been reported stolen

Apple’s iCloud has gained a tool that allows you to check a used iDevice and see if it has been reported stolen.

You just need to type in your device’s IMEI (usually located on the back of an Apple product or in settings) and the page will give you information if the device is activated under another Apple ID. Read more »

Nokia Lumia 735 ad wants you to stop the cutout selfie violence

Nokia’s latest ad wants to usher in the world of allfies – the selfie that doesn’t cut important people (namely the photo-taker) from the picture. For it Nokia puts forth the Lumia 735 which has a wide-angle 5MP front-facing shooter.

The ad is really hilarious and shows the people shooting cutout selfies as cutouts in the real world and shows the reaction from the people around them. Read more »

HTC Butterfly 2 hands-on

The HTC Butterfly 2 is half of the company’s replacement squad for the HTC One (M8) in markets where the flagship isn’t available. Coupled with the HTC One (E8), it uses more or less the same platform as the One (M8) but lacks the premium build materials and the hefty price tag that comes with them.

Despite its name this is the third overall Butterfly smartphone behind the original and the Butterfly S and HTC hasn’t stood still for the past year. The HTC Butterfly 2 has a key differentiator from the One (E8) and that’s its ability to withstand water for up to 1 meter and dust. Read more »

LG G Watch R hands-on

Smartwatches are all the rage here at IFA 2014 with Asus, Samsung and Sony getting in the mix and now LG has shown its first rounded smartwatch – the G Watch R.

It has a rounded watch face complete with a 1.3″ rounded POLED (plastic organic light-emitting diode) display, Snapdragon 400 chipset and a battery that will reportedly be able to endure for one day and a half to two days with the always on feature enabled. Read more »

We all love this part – the immaculate videos created months in advance to show off a product with perfectly-timed music and effects. Sony’s good at this stuff and the Xperia Z3 is the company’s best phone yet so this should be good. Read more »

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact video hands-on and camera samples

This is Sony’s latest mini – the Xperia Z3 Compact – and it has a good claim one the title for the best portable smartphone on the market. As such it will pose a serious threat to Samsung’s Galaxy Alpha and the coveted Apple iPhone 6, to name a few.

Last year’s Xperia Z1 Compact was a first in many ways and carved a name for itself as a device that doesn’t want to be considered a mini in anything but the size and a company that doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Read more »

Sony unveils QX1 and QX30 lens cameras, ActionCam Mini

Just as previously rumored, Sony has just announced its next batch of lens cameras – the QX1 and QX30. Both cameras will use your smartphone as a viewfinder, have attaching mechanisms for that smartphone but will also be usable detached.

The QX1 is by far the most interesting lens camera from Sony so far. It has an APS-C sensor (the same in size as those in Sony’s line of interchangeable lens cameras and DSLRs) and uses the E Mount to allow multiple lenses to be used. Read more »

Acer unveils Aspire R13 convertible with QHD display and active pen

Acer’s latest foire into Windows convertibles is the R13 laptop. It has a QHD (2560 x 1440) touchscreen display and an Intel Haswell chipset. The most curious thing about it is that Ezel Aero Hinge that has dual-torque design and allows the display to be rotated and the ultrabook to convert into six distinct body-to-screen configurations.

You can use the R13 laptop in the notebook, stand, tent and three other positions. Both the top plate of the device and the display are covered by Gorilla Glass 3. Read more »
