Now that we have our hands on the Sony Xperia Z2 for more than a booth tour we decided to go straight for what matters. Has Sony tuned its software to make it more mature and deliver better image quality or are 4K and slow-mo video recording the only benefits of the faster chipset?
The hardware remains unchanged – the Xperia Z2 and Z1 share a 20.7 MP snapper with an Exmor RS 1/2.3″ sensor, Sony G Lens f/2.0 aperture and the Bionz image processor. The only thing that potentially tips the scales in either direction is the software processing, which was rather heavy-handed on the Z1 and we hope Sony has tweaked it to achieve better results. Let’s see the samples shall we. Read more »

Nokia joined Microsoft last Friday officially but since today is the first working day after the agreement was done Microsoft has issued an ad on YouTube that portrays the big happy family as Not Like Everybody Else.
In the ad Microsoft is the colorful person out of a crowd of black and white street-dwellers in a black and white murky world. As he moves along, being cool and different he sees another colorful person (naturally using a Nokia slate) and finally at the end of the ad we see the colorful protagonist through our own point of view (suggesting perhaps we’re black and white as well). The LG G2 mini has a lot to prove being the little heir to a very capable battery performer in the face of the LG G2. The G2 recently received Android KitKat and soared from a 62 hour endurance rating to an 82 hour one.
The G2 mini has the advantage of Android KitKat right from the get go so we’re hoping the stellar work by LG has been transferred here as well. To G2 mini has a much smaller 2,440 mAh battery (compared to the G2′s massive 3,000 mAh juice pack) but the mini also brings a smaller, lower-res display (4.7″ qHD), lower-grade Snapdragon 400 processor with battery-saving Cortex-A7s inside. So let’s look at the numbers. Read more »
After the LG G2 received its KitKat update we decided to see what’s what and check out if the phone’s performance has seen drastic changes compared to its Jelly Bean state. We re-tested the battery performance and now it’s time to put the chipset through its paces.
The battery performance showed a leap from a 62 hour endurance rating to an 81 hour one, which was mainly due to a much-improved stand by time. As for the benchmarks, well, there’s a different story here. Note that KitKat brings faster multitasking because of optimized memory usage, which should aid in better benchmarking scores. Read more »

Images from Harri Kiljander (Director of F-Secure Lokki) show what appears to be Nokia House in Finland with a crane truck up front, preparing to take down Nokia’s logo and another photo showing the S and F from Microsoft’s logo, reportedly being prepared for mounting. The “On The Move” sign under the Nokia logo adds an air of irony to the otherwise saddening image. Read more »
