The Mountain View company’s flagship advertising product celebrated its birthday in style by dedicating an incredibly funny video to each of its clients (including a humble website not a million miles away from here).
Seven Styrofoam beer coolers stuffed with Google’s latest Nexus S and a wide-angle sport camera were lifted up at the amazing altitude of 32 000 meters attached to some huge weather balloons. All of the coolers returned successfully to Earth and were picked by the Google team, so don’t expect a Nexus S landing on your balcony any time soon.
The purpose of this was to test all the device sensors and its performance under different environments such as the freezing near-vacuum conditions on the edge of space. And also, I guess, create a nice viral ad for the Nexus S. Read more »
The Google dev team just announced an update to their Voice search application for Android. Available for devices running version 2.2 (Froyo) or later the new version introduces personalized voice recognition, which should rapidly improve the number of successfully recognized search queries. What that means is that Google will pre-record your own voice so the service gets better in recognizing your voice commands.
To activate personalized search for Google Voice you need to make the update and tick the check-box in the settings menu. Read more »
