Just as expected, Apple today announces the update to the MacBook Air. Most of the rumors came up true and the 11″ and 13″ ultra-portables now sport backlit keyboards by default and a selection of i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge CPU.

The 11″ MacBook Air starts at $1,000, just like its predecessor, and for that kind of cash you only get a measly 64GB of flash storage and 2GB of RAM. However add a couple of extra Benjamins and you have 128GB of storage and 4GB to compliment that 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Sandy Bridge CPU. More tablets from HTC ahead! We just heard that the Taiwanese company is working on a 3D version of its Flyer slate and we even got a photo of a part of the device to prove it. What you are seeing here should be the topmost part of the upcoming stereoscopic slate and as you can see, it features two cameras rather than one.

Now leaks based on just a piece of hardware should definitely be filled under uncertain, but seeing the interest that the EVO 3D generate, it would be strange if HTC didn’t keep pushing on the stereoscopic front. Read more »

The Apple Store website is down and as the tradition goes we will most probably be getting some new Apple gear when it goes back up. In this case we are looking forward to the new generation of MacBook Airs, which should be significantly more powerful than their predecessors and a new MacBook Mini series.

We got some 11th hour rumors on the exact specs of the new devices. Despite earlier speculations, the new 11.6″ MacBook Air base version will still only have 64GB worth of storage and 2GB of RAM. Lenovo has entered the budding tablet segment with not one but two tablets, running on different platforms. First is an Android Honeycomb based IdeaPad K1 and the second (and admittedly less exciting) is the Windows 7 based IdeaPad P1.

The IdeaPad K1 has a 10.1-inch multi-touch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It runs on a dual-core Tegra2 processor with 1GB of RAM and 16, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage space that can be expanded further using microSD cards. Read more »

Viber, the app that lets you call and text your contacts for free, is now available in the Android Market. It utilizes either your data plan or Wi-Fi connection to place calls and send messages, so instead of using your call minutes it uses your data plan megabytes. And now that the iOS-only restrction no longer applies it can unleash its full potential.

The app is absolutely free and automatically recognizes which users in your phonebook have the app installed, so you can call them free of charge. On Android it’s even supposed to be integrated in the phonebook so you can call without even opening the Viber app, but having tried it on a few handsets we didn’t get that integration. Read more »

The BlackBerry Tablet OS (that’s the PlayBook platform) just got an update to version 1.0.7. It brings an updated BlackBerry Bridge app, portrait mode in pictures app, pinch zooming in videos and extended language support.

The BlackBerry Bridge app is used to connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your PlayBook tablet wirelessly. What’s new with the app is that now you can save email attachments to either a removable SD card or the internal storage of the smartphone. Not only is the BlackBerry Touch 9860 not officially available yet, it hasn’t even been properly announced. However this didn’t stop a prototype unit from getting listed on the Dubai ad site of Dubizzle.com.

Apparently, someone got hold of a prototype well ahead of its release and decided to earn some cash from it. The asking price is 5,500 United Arab Emirates dirhams, which equals about €1,050 or $1500. For that price you are only getting the handset and a battery and no accessories. Read more »

The Google+ app for iOS has finally been approved by Apple. The app brings most of the features found in the Android version, such as the ability to choose your Circles while posting a message, multiple streams so you can see posts from people you follow as well as those you don’t by swiping horizontally on the screen and Huddle for sending group messages.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of caveats to this app. For starters, there is no Hangouts in the iOS version of the app, so you cannot do video conferencing. Read more »

We finally have a proper date from Apple regarding the launch of their latest and greatest operating system for the Mac. Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer said during today’s earnings call that the Mac OS X Lion will be available for download starting July 20, which is only a couple of hours from now.

The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman is a small feature phone with music-centric features and a thing for flashy colors. It also brings a fun, teenish design and touch of simplicity to the table which coupled with a good price tag could prove a winning formula.

It is, however, a sheep in wolf’s clothing in the aspect that it looks like the Android powered W8 but it is in fact a prettier Yendo – a dumb phone with no multitasking, a limited number of optimized apps and no flashy OS to flaunt in front of others. Still, it brings some notable improvements over the Yendo (the better looks aside) – it has a bigger 3″ display with a superior resolution of 240×400 pixels (over the 240×320 of the Yendo). Connectivity-wise it features Wi-Fi and finally in the multimedia department has e 3.15 MP fixed-focus camera instead of just a 2 MP one. Read more »

A few leaked blurry pictures revealed a still unannounced slider heading to Verizon. They are all about the Samsung SCH-i405, supposed to expand the Galaxy S II lineup later this year.

The SCH-i405 is an LTE-capable droid with a WVGA Super AMOLED Plus (possibly) display, a sliding-out hardware QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel rear and a 1.3 megapixel front cameras and 2GB ROM. Read more »

We already reported that Apple is all set to refresh the current range of MacBook Air notebooks. But now AppleInsider is reporting that this could be happening very soon, as soon as tomorrow. According to one of their sources, Apple will be launching the new range on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.

The new MacBook Airs are supposed to run on the new generation Intel Sandy Bridge processors and will have 4GB of RAM. Apple will also be doing away with the 64GB capacity model and the new range will have 128GB as the minimum. Read more »
