It certainly took longer than usual, but the LG Optimus 4X HD defenses are finally breached and you can now gain root access to its system. A guy called qaz753 from the all-conquering XDA-developers community did the trick and was kind enough to share the magic with the rest of the 4X HD owners.

You may have heard already – AT&T is planning on shutting down its 2G network, GSM voice, GPRS/EDGE data and all. It won’t happen for a long, long time so no need to rush to the store if you don’t have a 3G-enabled smartphone – the shut down is planned for January 1, 2017.

What does that mean for regular users? Not too much for sure. AT&T estimates that only 12% of their postpaid customers still use 2G phones. Virtually all new phones (except a few sub $50 SIM-free featurephones) support 3G, but it won’t matter – how likely are you to keep the phone you have now for 4-5 more years? When Google introduced the Face Unlock feature in Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, it was quickly proven to be a failure due to the ease with which you could bypass it using a photograph.

With Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, Google added the option to make the user blink so as to avoid being duped by a simple photograph. But as it turns out, even that can be bypassed by using a digital image of the user and a simple trick using an image editor. Read more »

The HTC Sense 4.0 UI on the new One X was a major improvement over the previous versions of the UI. HTC had toned down some of their previous design choices, which made the UI look more polished. But the performance was still lagging behind stock Ice Cream Sandwich UI and it can be seen while scrolling through homescreens and application drawer.

Thankfully, things are about to change when the next version of Sense UI hits the One X. The folks at Geeksaber have managed to get their hands on a leaked ROM containing the Sense 4.1 update and are saying that it makes a dramatic improvement to the performance. Read more »

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is an iOS and Android game that’s based roughly on the events in the 2012 movie of the same name. This version of the game came out around the same time as the PC and console version, but has different story and missions and has been developed by Gameloft instead of Activision.

Rovio is hard at work on an update to its Angry Birds Space game. The update is simply called “Red Planet”, and is pretty suggestive as to what it will contain.

Back in June, Angry Birds Space marked its 100th milion download, so it’s only logical for Rovio to build on the title’s success. The company also issued a teaser video for the update, which, naturally, doesn’t reveal much. Read more »
