A tipster just sent us some really interesting gossip – Samsung is working on a Galaxy S III-based point-and-shoot camera. The convergence device – called Samsung Galaxy S camera – features the trademark 4.8″ SuperAMOLED screen and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (no info on the chipset though).

Yes, it does sound a bit too good to be true, but let’s dream for a moment and here what our tipster (who has proven reliable on previous occasions) has to say about this camera he claims to have seen with his own eye two weeks ago. Read more »

Samsung have just released the source code of the ICS kernel of their Galaxy R Android smartphone. This will presumably open the floodgates and custom ROMs and kernels for the device will now start appearing at a rapid rate.

Samsung engineers took their time with the Galaxy R ICS update, delivering it several months after the release for the Galaxy S II, but that was to be expected given the difference in popularity (and price) between the two handsets. Read more »

Facebook has updated their mobile application for iOS, which brings with it significant improvement to the performance. Unlike the older version of the app that was based on HTML5, which, in other words, means that it was a simplified web browser loading the Facebook mobile website, the new version uses native code like most of the other apps out there.

What this means is that there is no more lag in scrolling and the performance is silky smooth, like that of one of the stock applications. Read more »

Microsoft is pushing hard to unify all its products. Metro – um, sorry, Modern UI/Windows 8 UI – is permeating everything from the smartphone OS, desktop OS, Office, Xbox and now even the company’s logo.

Google has released an update to the Chrome browser for iOS, which brings it to version 21.0.1180.77. The major change in this update is the inclusion of sharing option. Now you can tap the Share button in the drop down menu on the top right and it will give you options to share the page on Google+, email, Facebook and Twitter.

For email and Twitter the app pops up the built-in editing box and for Google+ and Facebook it launches the respective applications, if they are installed on the device. Otherwise it takes you to the App Store page to download them. Read more »

The Flickr app for Android has been around for a while now but thanks to its lackluster nature and the growing disinterest in the service itself means not a lot of people know or care about it.

That should change a bit with the release of the new version 1.5 app, which brings some new features along with an updated UI design, which should hopefully make people excited about using Flickr once again. Read more »

Asus-made Google Nexus 7 tablet isn’t doing too good a job at sneaking quietly around Europe after its official UK launch. First, Asus themselves broke its cover by posting on their Asus Italy Facebook page that the 16GB version will launch in early September at €250. Now, the Jelly Bean tablet has been spotted in France and Germany too.

French site Fnac is already taking pre-orders for the Nexus 7 and it seems that Asus is setting up a corner in a Berlin store. Oddly, all sightings so far have been of the 16GB version. Read more »

Good news, Transformer Pad users. A few days after the US owners got the Android Jelly Bean update, Asus Finland announced that it will be coming to Finland later this week.

You’ll get it as an OTA update and it will bring lots of improvements. Unfortunately it will also remove the Wi-Fi Direct and the Adobe Flash support. Read more »

LG has launched the world’s first 84-inch ‘Ultra Definition’ 4K 3D TV in Korea, with plans to release in international markets soon. This gigantic panel has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, which is basically four times the resolution of a 1080p display.

The TV, which is named 84LM9600, comes with LG’s Cinema 3D and a whole bunch of other features with 3D in the name. You also get a pair of passive 3D glasses for viewing the 3D content. Read more »

The Skype application for iOS has been updated and now boasts the ability to let you send images to your contacts, something that you could only do through the desktop client before. There is no size limit on the images you upload so you can upload as big an image as you want, provided you have a suitable data plan.

Other changes include performance improvements, updated privacy settings, minor visual improvements and bug fixes. Read more »

Nikon has finally announced their first Android-based Coolpic S800c point and shoot camera. On the camera side, it comes with a 16 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 10x optical zoom, 1080p video recording with stereo sound, 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen, EXPEED C2 processor, GPS and Wi-Fi.

On the Android side, it comes with Android 2.3, Gingerbread pre-installed. You may remember that in yesterday’s article I wrote that it seems unlikely that Nikon would put stock Gingerbread on a camera. Well, turns out there is more to it than that. Read more »
