According to a survey by Strategy Analytics which was gathered by data collected last fall Apple’s iCloud is the most popular cloud service in the US.

27% of those surveyed who use a cloud service have tried iCloud in US with Dropbox and Amazon Cloud Drive in second and third with 17& and 15% respectively. Read more »

The latest way to bypass the Galaxy S III/Note II/Note/S II lockscreen has been modified and now allows you to completely disable the devices’ locksceens. We already saw this exploit about three weeks ago, but back then it didn’t appear too dangerous as it only gave the intruder access to what’s on one of your homescreen panes.

Now, however, the author has found a way to use it to gain full control of the smartphone. You’ll need lots of time, patience and precision timing to accomplish this trick, but as you’ll see in a second it’s possible. Read more »

Google’s Executive chairman, Eric Schmidt stated today that Chrome and Android would remain separate, as they solve different problems right now. However, he didn’t really reject the possibility of them merging later down the road.

Additionally, Schmidt, who is currently attending the Big Tent Activate Summit in India, hinted that while both OS continue their separate ways, there’ll be more “commonality” between them. Read more »

NVIDIA has included an interesting new feature with its fourth generation Tegra chipsets – the Computational Photography Engine, a.k.a. Chimera. It allows for things like always-on HDR (for still shots, videos and more) achieved with just a single shot.

The current approach is to snap multiple photos at different exposures and stitch them, but that leads to motion artifacts and has other limitations that Chimera solves by doing HDR in a single shot. Read more »

Canon has announced the new EOS 100D, also known as the Rebel SL1 in North America, which is the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR camera yet. The 100D is based on the recently launched EOS M compact mirrorless camera and borrows many of the specifications from it.

For starters, it uses the same 18 megapixel CMOS APS-C sensor capable of shooting from ISO100-12800 (expandable to ISO25600) and up to ISO6400 for video (expandable up to ISO12800). It uses Canon’s DIGIC 5 processors that lets it shoot up to 4 fps in burst mode. There is also a nine-point auto-focus system with a new Hybrid CMOS AF-II sensor. Read more »

A few days ago, Google prematurely released the Google Keep service, only to pull it back down on the same day. For those who missed that, Google Keep is a note taking application for Android that syncs with your Google Drive account.

Now, the service has been officially announced in the form of the Google Keep app on the Play Store. It is a very basic note taking app meant for quickly jotting down your thoughts without any unnecessary frills. Read more »

Do you remember last year’s Smoked by Windows Phone marketing campaign? Microsoft surely put great effort back then to show the Windows Phone OS was easier and faster to operate than its competitors. It was just yesterday Apple released the iOS 6.1.3 update to address the lockscreen passcode bypass issue. Unfortunately, there is another work-around that will still give you access to the Phone app without entering the pass code.

To make this work though, all you need is a SIM ejecting tool or a paperclip. The good news is you can make your iPhone immune to this workaround by simply disabling voice dial in your passcode lock settings screen. Read more »

At their GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, NVIDIA revealed the roadmap for future Tegra-series processors, among other things. The roadmap highlights NVIDIA’s plans for 2013 and 2014 with two future processors, Logan and its successor, Parker, which continue NVIDIA’s tradition of naming them after the real last names of superheroes.

Logan will be the successor to Wayne, more commonly known as the Tegra 4 chipset, and will be appearing in devices in early 2014. Read more »
