According to a report in 9to5Mac, Apple will showcase the long-awaited split-screen multitasking for iPad tablets during WWDC next month. The functionality was initially expected to debut alongside iOS 8 last year.

HTC released the official Sense Mail app in the Google Play store. The application functions like any other modern email app – one can read and compose emails, create folders, and manage multiple email accounts using it.

The lack of public transit directions in Apple Maps may be baffling, but it looks like the company is finally going to take care of this glaring omission soon. According to a new rumor, transit directions will be added to the Apple Maps app that will be part of iOS 9.

Apple’s next version of its mobile operating system should be demoed in June at the company’s annual developer-focused conference (WWDC). As in previous years, we expect iOS 9 to be released around the time the new iPhones ship, so probably in the fall. Read more »

Today AT&T took the wraps off a new Android tablet made by LG. It’s called G Pad F 8.0 and will be up for grabs at the carrier starting on May 29, which is next Friday. It bears some resemblance to the G Pad 8.0 from last year, both in terms of looks as well as specs.

The G Pad F 8.0 however comes with a built-in stylus and a full-size USB port. Those seem to be its main differentiating features. The screen is quoted as being an “HD+” IPS panel, which we assume means it has a resolution of 1,280×800. Read more »

YouTube recently launched 60fps playback and now it’s enabling the smoother framerate for livestreaming videos too. This update comes thanks to the new HTML5 player for livestreams, the old one used Flash.

From rejuvenated brand image to squabble over software updates, Cyanogen saw it all last year while taking a dip in the fast growing smartphone market of India. After Xiaomi and OnePlus recently opened their India offices, Cyanogen plans to follow suit in coming three months.

Vikram Natarajan, senior vice-president of global partnerships and distribution at Cyanogen, told ET Tech, “India is very attractive. It is one of the hyper-growth markets for mobile today.” Read more »

Now we also have a few benchmark tests to try and see what kind of performance the Snapdragon 615 chipset delivers. This might be Qualcomm’s mid-range offering, but the R7 has some great aspirations so it’s important that the company got the most of it. BlackBerry has released a new version (v2.9.0.6) of its BBM beta app for iOS that brings along some new features as well as several bug fixes.

The update includes a new Timed Message feature that allows you to control how long messages and pictures you share with contacts can be viewed within BBM. It also adds support for the Message Retract feature that lets you remove your message from your BBM chat before or after it has been read by the recipient. Read more »

Free VoIP and messaging app Viber is now available on Chrome OS. To download the app, you’d have to head over to the Chrome Web Store on your Chromebooks.

For those not aware, Viber is an app that allows you to call over the internet to anyone using the app and also to landline numbers and also send messages. Apple has been working on its new font – San Francisco – for a while now and we saw it debut on the Apple Watch announced last year. But soon you might be seeing it as the default font on iOS and OS X, replacing the current Helvetica Neue.

San Francisco is a heavier typeset designed to emphasise visibility, especially on smaller displays of the Apple Watch. The font also scales well to larger displays and works quite well on iOS and OS X. In comparison, many people find the current Helvetica Neue to be quite light and hard to read, especially on iOS. Another day, another Lollipop update rollout. This time we’re talking about the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet, in its LTE-capable incarnation, which was launched by Verizon. Following the update to Android 4.4 KitKat, which it got last year, and then another bug fixer, the G Pad 8.3 is now finally receiving the tasty treat known as Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

Verizon’s support documents say you should expect to see a new software button arrangement (and design), lock screen notifications, smart lock (using proximity to other devices to auto-unlock the tablet), the new notification screen design, the much-hated Interruptions feature that replaces Silent mode, floating action buttons everywhere, screen pinning, search in Settings, multi-user accounts accessible from the notification panel, as well as an “Avoid bad Wi-Fi connections” item in Settings.
