Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 802 and 602A SoC for smart TVs and in car infotainment

Qualcomm has officially taken wraps of its Snapdragon 802 processor that is designed exclusively for streaming 4K content on your televisions. The semi-conductor giant also introduced its Snapdragon 602A chipset to improve the infotainment in cars.

The Snapdragon 802 is a SoC with quad-core CPU that shares a lot with the company’s Snapdragon 800 and 805 mobile processors. Read more »

HP chooses Android over Chrome OS for new Slate 21 Pro all-in-one

The latest Slate 21 Pro AiO from HP comes with Android out of box, but also has the ability to act as a touchscreen display for a Windows 8 PC.

HP also took advantage of the pre-CES festivities by announcing the ProOne 400 and 205 AiOs, the Pro x2 410 and 350 G1 notebooks, and the HP 200 Microtower. Read more »

The Pebble smartwatch receives a lot of praise for its functionality, but its looks could be better – imagine if it had a stainless steel casing and Gorilla glass, with a metal wristband to boot. As it turns out, this might be less than a month away from reality as the smartwatch leaked in photos, presumably shortly before its official unveiling at CES.

Google starts Open Automotive Alliance to promote Android-powered cars

Google started the Open Handset Alliance, which gave us Android, and now it’s unveiling the Open Automotive Alliance, which aims to bring the mobile OS on the road. The other founding partners are Audi, GM, Honda and Hyundai, along with NVIDIA.

More members are expected to join in the OAA’s mission to accelerate the development of intuitive, safe cars. Read more »

Lenovo launches new ThinkPad 8 Windows 8.1 tablet

Lenovo has announced a new 8-inch, Windows 8.1 tablet called the ThinkPad 8. The device is meant to compete with the iPad mini and is targeted at professional users.

The ThinkPad 8 has an 8-inch, 1920×1200 resolution display, although Lenovo does not bundle a stylus with this device. On the back the tablet uses an aluminum body and supports flip cover similar to the iPad’s Smart Cover that magnetically snaps on to the side. Read more »

LG Life Band Touch goes live ahead of CES

LG has just announced its smart wearable Life Band Touch. Equipped with Bluetooth 4.0, the high-tech wristband is water resistant and capable of keeping track of your workouts, runs, step counts, calorie consumption as well as distance walked.

Those are nice features, but are quite common, which has made LG up the ante by also making this a fitness accessory. As a result it sports a special earphone, called the Heart Rate Earphone. Read more »

‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ for iOS and Android game review

Rockstar has been porting old Grand Theft Auto games over to the mobile platform for the past two years. Back in 2011 they ported over the popular Grand Theft Auto III, which was followed by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2012.

LG announces 77″, 65″ and 55″ 4K OLED TVs at CES 2014

LG has kicked things off at this year’s CES with its latest 4K OLED TVs. Part of the EC9800 series, the company has 55″, 65″ and a 77″ panels for visitors of the show to ogle.

As you’d imagine, the most interesting of the new family is the 77EC9800, which with its huge 77″ screen diagonal and 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution should be a welcome guest in any living room. Apple and Qualcomm facing production issues with their smartwatches

The next 12 months are said to be the year of the wearable devices as the industry embraces the newest trend. However, two of the industry giants in the faces of Qualcomm and Apple are reportedly facing production issues with their respective wearable products.

According to a report from DigiTimes, Qualcomm’s Toq and Apple’s alleged iWatch yields are less than 50% of what initially anticipated due to difficulties with applying surface treatments on the metal chassis. Read more »

Pandora for Android adds Alarm clock functionality

Users of the popular Pandora service on Android will be glad to know that the latest version adds a much requested feature to the app. You can now set an alarm from within the app and choose to wake up to your favorite music streamed straight to your phone.

Rumors point at 12-inch iPad Pro coming fall 2014

Analyst Patrick Wang of Evercore Partners speculates that Apple will release a 12-inch iPad Pro model. The newest iPad would be focused on capturing the business market, and is said to revolutionize notebook PCs.

Wang predicts that the new tablet from Apple will be powered by an A8 processor which will debut with the release of the device in Fall 2014. Read more »
