This year’s CES saw the announcement of the new Samsung Series 9 ultrabook. Its slim aluminum body houses specially designed components that make it one of the thinnest and lightest portable computers around.

It will be available in 13.3″ and 15″ versions, but Samsung claims that it is so compact that the 15″ version is the size of a typical 14″ laptop. Read more »

LTE is reigning supreme at this year’s CES and Samsung is one of the main reasons for that. The company unveiled a number of LTE-enabled versions of its smart devices and we are rushing to take them for a spin. We now have our first impressions of the Verizon-headed Galaxy Tab 7.7, and the AT&T-bound Galaxy Note.

The changes that the AT&T Galaxy Note brings include a different chipset, LTE connectivity and the four capacitive buttons, which replace the two-touch-plus-one hardware combo that we saw on the international version. Verizon and Motorola had some interesting Androids to show at CES, including a brand new member of the Droid family. It’s not as thin as its RAZR siblings, but 12.9mm still sounds great given the arsenal of features it offers (4″ qHD screen, slide-out QWERTY and LTE are the headliners).

This is amazing and yes, you read this right. ASUS CEO Jonney Shih and NVidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang stepped up on stage at NVidia’s press event at CES and teased a 7-inch ASUS tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich on the quad-core (actually, penta-core) Tegra 3 chip and said that it will cost just $249.

The tablet ASUS’ CEO flashed on stage looked like the Eee Pad MeMo ME171, but without an official confirmation from ASUS we can’t be sure. Read more »

The HTC Titan II is one of the hottest smartphones to be announced so far at CES 2012 and with its impressive 16 megapixel camera even hopes to become one of the devices of the season.

Huawei surprised quite a lot of people with their announcement of the Ascend P1 and Ascend P1 S smartphones at this year’s CES. The smartphone maker was previously known for its affordable devices with modest functionality, but these two are aiming to take on the big boys out there.

The great news is that impressions made by the Huawei Ascend P1 and Ascend P1 S based on their specs sheets, still stood after we got a chance to play with them. Asus is certainly aiming to become one of the big players in the tablet game. After releasing the first quad-core tablet last month, today at CES the company unveiled the Asus Transformer Prime TF700T featuring a 10.1″ 1920×1200 resolution display.

That’s right, we got another FullHD tablet. Clearly, ASUS is responding to Acer’s Iconia Tab A700 tablet challenge. The Transformer Prime TF700T display uses the same SuperIPS+ technology as on the original Prime TF201, which promises splendid viewing angles and contrast. Read more »

If you thought Lenovo was going to stop its announcements at ultrabooks and netbooks, you obviously don’t know the company very well. The Chinese announcement marathon continued with a bunch of solid desktop computers and refreshed all-in-ones.

More specifically, the IdeaCentre B-series got a refresh in the form of the B540 and B340 powerful all-in-ones, while the Lenovo desktop family got new members from the IdeaCentre K and H series. Read more »

Well, while there was just one new phone from LG at this year’s CES, their TV division has been working overtime – they showed their 84″ 3D Ultra Definition TV, an 55″ OLED TV, 3D TVs with and without glasses, 2D-to-3D conversion, some services and a new chipset to power their Google TVs.

The most attention-grabbing thing LG showed, however, was the Magic Remote – a Wiimote-like device that lets you control your TV and play Fruit Ninja too. Okay, that’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s start. Read more »

Canon has brought out the big (but compact) guns in the Canon PowerShot G1 X. While it may look like a point-and-shoot camera it nonetheless packs a real punch under the hood. Its huge sensor measures 18.7x14mm, which is larger then the Micro Four-Thirds sensor and nearly as big as the APS-C sensors found in some DSLRs (22.3 x 14.9 mm for Canon).

What sets the G1 X apart from those types of cameras is that it doesn’t have an interchangeable lens – you get the 4x built in lens, covering the 28mm-112mm range in 35mm equivalent with a maximum aperture of F/2.8-F/5.6 and that’s that. Read more »

In the midst of all the super phones we’re eagerly watching pop out of every manufacturer’s hat, it’s nice to take a little breather by enjoying some of the cool gadgets that play the sidekick role.

If you remember the Sony Ericsson LiveView you’d know that it was an Android-driven wristwatch of sorts that could show you notifications, wake you up and let you control your smartphone without taking it out of your backpack. OCZ opened their CES 2012 tally by unveiling a new member of their SSD lineup. Dubbed Lightfoot, the new OCZ SSD comes with a twist – it uses Thunderbolt as its only connectivity option.

I guess I’m not the only one who has a relatively new HDTV that doesn’t have fancy “Smart TV” or “Connected TV” functionality and thinks the price of the upgrade isn’t worth it. The Samsung inTouch is a curious Android-powered device that solves this problem by adding such functionality (Skype, YouTube, etc.) to any TV with an HDMI port.

It looks like a web cam and indeed features a 3MP camera that can be used for snapping photos or placing 720p video calls on Skype (the inTouch has its own microphone for that). Read more »

Two years after the original, the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 ascends the CES stage. The new version is easier to fly yet more capable than its predecessor. It packs an upgraded camera that shoots HD videos and photos in-flight, as well as a tougher exterior and new sensors.

The apps which control the drone are getting an update to support the new functionality – the update should hit the iOS and Android versions at the same time. The new app makes sharing the videos you shoot easier – one tap lets you share and upload to YouTube. Read more »
