Nokia’s cinemagraph camera feature in its Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 smartphones has been updated with new sharing options.

The new release of the Cinemagraph app is version 2.5.0.21 and includes a new Share menu option, which offers sharing via Facebook and Twitter, email or messaging. Read more »

Facebook app for Windows Phone updated with performance improvement

Microsoft has released a new version of Facebook app specifically for Windows Phone 8. In case you’re not aware, the Facebook app for Windows Phone is actually made by Microsoft, unlike the apps on iOS and Android, which are made by Facebook itself.

The new app mostly concentrates on the performance improvement, which is evident as soon as you launch the app, as everything from scrolling to opening pages is faster now. Other changes include support for multiple resolutions possible on Windows Phone 8 and multiple tile sizes. Read more »

Last week we told you that popular instant messaging service WhatsApp will soon be making an appearance on the new Windows Phone 8 platform, and it has.

WhatsApp is now available on devices running Windows Phone 8. As before, it’s free for the first year and then it’s $0.99 per year. The application is similar to the one on Windows Phone 7.5 in every way, which has also been updated to v2.8.10. Read more »

Microsoft adds ability to install apps from microSD cards in Windows Phone 8

Microsoft has just added a useful new feature to the Windows Phone Store that lets you install apps from the microSD card, if your device supports one. This is convenient for those who don’t have a data connection on their phones.

Now, when you go to an app page on the Windows Phone Store web page, you will see an option to download and install the app manually. Click on that and the app starts downloading automatically to your computer. Once done, you can then transfer the XAP file to a microSD card and then install it on your phone. Read more »

VLC Player developers talk about a version for Windows Phone 8

Recently, the developers of the popular VLC Player started a Kickstarter project to fund the development of their Windows 8/RT application. So far, their progress has been pretty good and they have managed to raise over $20,000.

Now they have announced that they are also working on a version of the app for Windows Phone 8. Thanks to the new common kernel shared by Windows RT and Windows Phone 8, porting the app from one platform to another has become quite easy. Read more »

Angry Birds Space and Star Wars coming to Windows Phone 7.5, original Angry Birds gets a birthday update

Rovio has just announced its latest Angry Birds installments will be released for the older generation Windows Phone devices. Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars will be hitting the WP7 Store any moment now. Meanwhile, the original Angry Birds title will be getting an update to celebrate its third birthday.

Both games will be compatible with all Windows Phone 7.5 or later running smartphones, no matter their specs. Rovio says Nokia helped bring the games to those that only have 256 MB of RAM. Read more »

Whatsapp for WP8 coming soon, Dropbox for Windows RT submitted for approval

The Whatsapp team says the Whatsapp app for Windows Phone 8 will go live very soon in the Store. It will be six times faster than before and later on it will get another update with new emoji set.

The Whatsapp messenger already made an appearance in the Windows Phone 8 Store, but was quickly pulled back as it obviously required some more polishing. It seems the team is ready with the new app and you will be getting in the next few days or weeks. Read more »

Last year in December we reported about the #DroidRage trend that Microsoft started on Twitter, asking Android users their horror stories about using their phones and the people with the best stories would get a free Windows Phone 7 device.

This year, they are back again with the same hashtag, asking Android users for their best/worst Android malware horror stories. They haven’t exactly mentioned what prize the winners will be getting, only referring to it as a ‘get well present’ but it’s likely that it will be a Windows Phone again this year. Read more »

Nokia’s Scalado acquisition continues to pay off as the company just announced the PhotoBeamer app. The software is exclusive app to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 and allows you to stream photos quite easily.

You can stream your gallery to any device with a web browser and internet connection. What you need to do is open the PhotoBeamer website on the target device, scan a QR code with your phone’s PhotoBeamer app and your gallery will be shared immediately. Read more »
