As most of you surely know Microsoft organized an event on January 21 to showcase the progress and innovations in Windows 10 and beyond. The conference was quite interesting and gave answers to a lot of pressing questions, especially regarding the new OS on mobile device and the new unified application ecosystem. After a few encouragements from the speakers apparently a lot more people got excited about the new insider program and Microsoft was happy to announce that over 170 000 new registrations were received for the program in the two days after the event.

Windows 10 is truly a major upgrade over previous versions and Microsoft made that abundantly clear not only through the wide array of exciting new announcements and the emerging One Windows ideology, but also through the new open development process with in-depth user-engagement along the way. With Windows 10 Skype will be making the transition from an important app to a part of the OS itself, both on phones and on the desktop. The new app will sync its contact book with that of your phone and your email, which will let you stay in touch even if your friends are using an Android or an Apple product.

Microsoft doesn’t quite make it clear how that will work, but on phones the app will handle SMS messages as well as its own Skype messages. Read more »

Microsoft’s event was packed with new announcements and there just wasn’t enough time for details. Project Spartan is the new default browser for Windows 10 and it’s a universal app – it will run on PCs, tablets, phones and the Xbox.

Microsoft has confirmed that its Lumia Camera will be the stock camera app on the upcoming Windows 10.

This means that all Windows Phone 8.1 devices are going to be using the camera suite when the Windows 10 update launches for their phones – and that’s not a bad thing at all. Read more »

Just over a couple of months after the company entered into a new partnership with Microsoft, Dropbox has announced that its cloud storage app is now available for Windows phones and tablets.

The company is claiming that the new apps will offer all the standard features, which means that you can use them to automatically back up your photos to the cloud storage service, mark files as favorites so you can access them even while offline, as well as access both your personal and work accounts at once. It’s no secret that developers prefer iOS and Android when it comes to making applications and services for the mobile platform. While this is great for users on these platforms (which, let’s face it, are the majority of the smartphone users out there) it leaves people on BlackBerry or Windows Phone devices out in the cold.

The much leaked Web interface for WhatsApp is now live. As you may have imagined, this allows you to use your computer to send and receive WhatsApp messages. But, true to this app’s very obvious “mobile first” mantra, the Web client is acting simply as an extension of your phone.

Thus, all the messages still actually live on your handset, they’re just shown to you on the Web as well. So your phone needs to be connected to the Internet while you’re using WhatsApp Web on your computer, keep that in mind. Read more »

Quite a long time after the Android version of Chrome got its Material Design makeover, it’s now finally time for the iOS iteration to get the same treatment. Google has published a new version of Chrome in the iTunes App Store today, and the main new feature it comes with is Material Design.

But that’s not all. Aside from now adhering to Google’s newest design guidelines, Chrome for iOS also got optimized for iOS 8 and received support for bigger phones. Read more »

Alleged screenshots hinting of an upcoming WhatsApp web client have surfaced. Shared on Google+ and shortly removed, the post shows WhatsApp settings screen prompting to pair with a web browser and a trusted computer for a secure connection.

The web client itself hasn’t leaked yet. Sadly, there’s no further information when we can expect WhatsApp to expand beyond smartphones. Read more »

The Skype app for Windows Phone is getting a new update today, which should be live soon in Microsoft’s app store. Aside from the usual bug fixes and unspecified improvements, the new version of the app comes with one feature that’s been much requested by Windows Phone users: a compact mode.

Simply put, this makes fonts and messages smaller inside Skype. So, whereas before you could see a maximum of five contacts at a time, from now on you’ll get at least six on one screen. Read more »

A few days ago we reported about a sketchy update service on Micromax phones. Multiple users complained that they were seeing ads in their notification areas or, even worse, completely new installed apps that they never approved. All these unpleasantries appeared after updating the phone’s firmware.

Android Lollipop allows developers to tap into the camera API and enable control over shooting parameters such as white balance, shutter speed, ISO, focusing distance but up until now enthusiast droid shooters didn’t have the app to let them explore these controls.

The Google Now Launcher just got updated with Material Design for devices running KitKat and Jelly Bean. This will enable users to enjoy a taste of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop looks on their devices while waiting for manufacturers to push out the latest Android update for their phone.
