iOS users should watch out next time they decide to take up a conversation via Skype, they could be exposing themselves to a pretty fundamental security hole.

According to some insider information, obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Samsung is en route to open-source its home-baked Bada OS next year, making it possible for developers and even other manufacturers to tinker with it.

The move, should it turn out true, will aim to bring some more manufacturers to the Bada ecosystem and turn it into a viable alternative to Android for mid-range and high-end phones. That would give Samsung some independence from Google and Android and is supposed to be brought on, in part, by the Google-Motorola deal. Read more »

One of the biggest competitors to Google’s Android Market is the controversially named Amazon Appstore. One of the main reasons for its popularity has been the free app that Amazon gives away everyday to users.

Street Fighter is coming to Android, thanks to a collaboration between LG and CAPCOM. LG’s CEO took the time to “HD” four times in four sentences, underlining “HD smartphone”.

Street Fighter IV will come to Android in the last quarter of this year and be exclusive to the LG’s own app store (LG World) for the first three months of its droid existence. There was no mention of its pricing, though. Read more »

Millions this, millions that – the Angry Birds team are probably all patting each other on the back, celebrating passing 350 million downloads. The company’s General Manager Andrew Stalbow bragged about some other numbers – like people spending 300 million minutes each day on the popular bird-flinging game.

Despite all the Windows 8 demo videos that we saw over the past few days there still seem to be major features in the new OS that we don’t know about. Like telephony, for example. Yeap, Microsoft’s shiny new platform is likely going to support voice calls, which will make it suitable for voice-enabled tablets.

The information comes from the screenshot above, which features a missed calls pane in its Metro UI. And that could be used for some VoIP services, so you shouldn’t get all too enthusiastic about it just yet. Read more »

The Xbox Live Arcade game Lore Runner X is coming to the Android OS. It launches exclusively on the Xperia PLAY and Sony Ericsson will make it available on some their other Xperia phones but I guess it will hit the Android Market soon or later.

Google is allegedly working on a social news reader app for both the iPad and Android, which should step on Flipboard’s toes – which, incidentally, is the app that’s named 2010 app of the year by Apple.

The rumor first emerged from a comment on Google+ by blogger Robert Scoble, who said that he’s “heard from someone working with Google that Google is working on a Flipboard competitor for both Android and iPad”. Read more »

Google Voice Actions is a series of commands you can use on your Android smartphone to send texts, call someone and more. The service has finally crossed the Atlantic and has landed on European shores. It’s now available in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

Samsung announced yet another exclusive service for their Android smartphones. The Korean company has launched Premium Samsung Apps, which is the second Samsung app store for Android.

However, unlike the regular Samsung Apps repository, Premium Samsung Apps will also offer paid applications. So far, Samsung Apps only offered a small number of free applications (though admittedly their quality was usually good), but now that Samsung is also offering paid apps things will change and more variety should be available. Ever wanted to have the OS X experience on your iPhone 4? We are afraid we are still some way off from having the real thing, but this latest iOS mod that we found is one great start. Dubbed Ultimatum and naturally only available to jailbroken iPhones, it mimics the Lion OS X quite successfully.
