The Chinese chipmaker Allwinner took the wraps off a 64-bit tablet-friendly chipset with incredibly low price tag. Allwinner A64 brings 4K display support to mobile devices for only $5.

After having introduced us to a few new smartphone lines (A, E, and J so far), Samsung is apparently looking to use some new brands for its upcoming tablets too. According to a new rumor, we’ll soon see the Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus lines on the market.

Though if you were expecting some high-end beasts, we’re sorry to disappoint. These will allegedly be nothing more than midrange offerings, perhaps meant to succeed the Galaxy Tab 4 line (of which the 10.1-inch tablet is pictured above). While we’ve had an endless marathon of reports surrounding Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S6, as well as its all but confirmed curved variant, the Galaxy S Edge, detailing information such as specs, features, price, as well as the colour options. We even had one for the name courtesy of Vodafone, but now we learn it might not have been entirely accurate.

The South Korean company has got the names ‘GALAXY S6′ and ‘S6 edge’ trademarked in South Korea (see image above) a few days ago, something which was first noticed by our friends at GalaxyClub. Read more »

Samsung has set a new world record for the highest number of selfies taken in 24 hours. Following the launch of it’s Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 handsets in the South African cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town, the South Korean company invited people to use the two devices and take selfies.

A total of 12,803 selfies were taken with the company’s Galaxy A series devices, which was 3,000 more than the previous record. Read more »

It seems Lenovo was not impressed with the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus design because it released a smartphone that deliberately looks like the duo. But does it feel like the pair of Apple phones?

Just as promised, the Sony SmartWatch 3 with a metal band starts selling in the UK from today.

Clove UK is the first store to offer the smartwatch. The price of the regular SmartWatch 3 is around the £180 ballpark, but its metal counterpart is slightly more expensive at. £ 215. Sony’s UK store as well as Amazon UK still haven’t listed pricing of the SmartWatch 3 with a metal band.

The smartwatch offers a 1.6″ transflective display with 320×320 pixel resolution. It’s waterproof with an IP68 rating and runs the latest version of Android Wear on a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and 512MB of RAM. In addition to Bluetooth 4.0, the connectivity suite is enhanced with NFC, too. The battery is 420 mAh and is rated to last 2 days with normal use.

Nearly three years after VideoLAN launched a beta version of the famous VLC media player for Android, the app is now available as a stable version in the Play Store.

What’s worth noting is that the beta version of the app is also available in Google Play as a separate listing, suggesting that any new features or improvements will be pushed out to the app first before being pulled over to the stable version. Read more »

Microsoft has acquired the popular Sunrise Calendar application for a reported amount of $100 million dollars.

Sunrise is a free calendar application for iOS and Android. It featured an attractive interface design and synced with a wide variety of services such as Google calendar, iCloud, Microsoft Exchange and even Facebook for your events. On March 1 Samsung is set to unveil its next flagship smartphone, which it will probably call the Galaxy S6. This is obviously one of the most hotly anticipated devices of the year, and because of that we’ve heard a lot of rumors about it recently. Some of them have even brought us pictures of such things as the phone’s metal frame. And now someone has decided to use all the information in the most recent rumors and leaks to create a few renders of what the Galaxy S6 might end up looking like.

Here’s something that bloatware haters are going to, well, hate. OnePlus has just announced that the next over-the-air update for its One smartphone will come with the SwiftKey keyboard preinstalled. This means that people who would like to try that app but for some reason haven’t yet downloaded it from the Play Store will now get to do just that.

On the other hand, if you don’t like SwiftKey, you’ll now have to live with it on your OnePlus One, since there probably won’t be an easy way to uninstall it. At least it won’t be selected as the default input method – those who want to try it will have to enable it from the dedicated Settings menu first. Read more »

US retailer BestBuy is now offering the HTC One (M7) off contract for $149.99. The store is obviously clearing its inventory as a preparation for the launch of the HTC One (M9) in a month’s time.

The device is available for both AT&T and Verizon and is more than a decent phone for the money considering there’s a no long-term contract to sign. Not to mention, that HTC is working on an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the phone as well. Read more »

When the Nokia N1 went on sale in China earlier last month, the initial batch of 20,000 units was sold out in just four minutes and two seconds. The second batch went on sale a week later, and it too sold out in minutes, although there was no information on the number of units that were up for grabs, the time the batch lasted, and the number of interested buyers.

But it is now being reported that the second batch saw 666,594 interested buyers against 32,000 units of the N1 that were sold out in just 7 minutes and 47 seconds. Read more »
