If you’ve used the Twitter client Tweetie or the official Twitter apps for iOS, Android and OS X, you have one person to thank for them: Loren Brichter. Brichter rose to fame with his excellent Twitter app, Tweetie, for iOS and Android. These apps were so good that Twitter acquired him and his apps and since then he made the Twitter apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and OS X.

When Apple announced the iPad mini, one of the things I noticed was how thin the bezel is on the side. The iPad has a sizable bezel all around its display and Apple’s reason for that was to be able to hold the device without touching the screen. So why did they make the bezel so thin on the iPad mini?

Nikon has announced the newest member of their Nikon 1 series of mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. The Nikon 1 V2 has a 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and a new design, that unlike the previous Nikon 1 series cameras has a proper grip like a DSLR to make it easier to hold.

Other features include a built-in flash, notably missing on the V1, along with a hotshoe for attaching the new optional SB-N7 compact speedlight, a new Command dial, EXPEED 3A image processor, 73 point AF system, 15fps burst mode for up to 45 images or 60fps for up to 40 images, FullHD video recording and a 3.0-inch, 921k dot LCD. Yesterday, Apple announced the new iPad mini but along with that also introduced a fourth generation iPad, just eight months after the third generation model was announced earlier this year. And it’s not a small update, either. The fourth generation model comes with a faster A6X processor that doubles the CPU and GPU power, faster wireless connectivity and the new Lighting port.

Yesterday, Apple held an event in San Jose, California, where they announced the new iPad mini, fourth generation iPad, new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, new iMac, refreshed Mac mini and a new iBooks application.

The keynote was live streamed but was only available for viewing if you owned a Mac, an iOS device or an Apple TV but now the keynote video is available for download to everyone. Read more »

You may have heard by now about the October 29 event scheduled by Google. While a new Nexus phone is what everyone is expecting, it seems Google might have a couple more tricks up its sleeve.

The first one is something we have already seen, and that is the 32GB Nexus 7 that is actually on sale in several places in the US. What we haven’t seen so far is a 3G version of the Nexus 7, something a lot of people have been waiting for, which is also something that Google is said to unveil during the October 29 event. The original Carmageddon was a vehicular combat game that was released in 1997 and later ported to other platforms. Because of the violence in the game, which was too much for a game at that time, it was either heavily censored or banned in several countries around the world.

The game has now been ported over to mobile, with the iOS version out now on the App Store and an Android version supposedly in the works. We decided to take a look and see how it fares fifteen years after it originally came out. Read more »

Apple has scheduled an event next week on October 23, which for all intents and purposes is for the upcoming iPad mini. However, it is now being rumored that Apple will be making changes to the existing iPad as well.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple will be releasing a slightly updated version of the existing iPad, which was released back in March. Although they don’t have the details on the things that will be changed, the presence of the new Lightning connector is said to be the most likely new addition. Read more »

Remember we told you a couple of days ago about the 32GB Nexus 7 appearing on the Staples Advantage online store page with an approximate launch date of October 18? Turns out, it was the real deal. According to a tip sent to The Verge, one of their readers was able to walk into a Staples outlet and purchase the 32GB model.

This person, who seems to be aware of the launch of the 32GB model, called his local Staples store to confirm if they have it in stock, at which point he was told that they did. After that he went to the store, exchanged his recently purchased 8GB Nexus 7 for the 32GB model that costs $249 while paying the difference. Read more »

We have reported several times in the past about the 7-inch Acer Iconia Tab A110 Android tablet. We knew that the tablet was going to be priced competitively, somewhere around the $200 mark.

Following their biyearly tradition of releasing major updates to their OS, Canonical has released the newest version of Ubuntu, 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

Among the chief new features is the ability to set websites as web apps and pin them to the launcher. You can have websites such as Gmail or Facebook pinned to your launcher and then open them just as you would open an application. Read more »

Google may not have had tremendous success with their ambitious Chromebook project but they don’t plan on hanging up their gloves any time soon. The newest product in the Chromebook like is a 11.6-inch model manufactured by Samsung and will be selling for just $249.99.

What really makes this Chromebook different from others is that this is the first to run on an ARM-based processor. Read more »

Google has released the stock Jelly Bean Calendar application on the Play Store that can now be installed by anyone with a device running Android 4.0.3 and above.

This is great for someone who has an Android device with a custom calendar application, such as the ones Samsung and HTC like to install on their devices, but want to use the stock Calendar app that you find on Nexus devices. Read more »

Dropbox has announced a new program called the Space Race meant for school and university students where you can earn up to 25GB for yourself and your schoolmates while competing against other schools in the program.

To be part of this program, you have to be from one of the eligible educational institutions and have their official email address. Once you create an account with this ID, you automatically get 3GB of space by default for two years. If you already have an account or want to register with some other email address you can but you still have to confirm your school ID with them. Read more »
