Nokia Lumia 800 battery test now over, see how it did [TEST]

The Nokia Lumia 800 battery test just finished and we are rushing to bring you the results. Everyone with any degree of interest in Windows Phone certainly has the Finns’ flagship on their shortlist, so we figured plenty of people will be interested to see how it did.

Coming with a 1450 mAh battery and a WVGA 3.7″ screen, the Lumia 800 started this test in a slightly more favorable position than its Nokia N9 sibling. The MeeGo flagship features the same battery, but its screen is 0.2″ larger and has 54 pixels higher vertical resolution, so we’d expect the Lumia 800 to do better. Read more »

iOS 5 finally gets an untethered jailbreak, public availability coming soon [VIDEO]

Ever since Apple released iOS 5, a lot of its users have been waiting for an untethered jailbreak to come up. Well, it appears that the long wait is about be over as we got a video from the Chronic Dev Team that demonstrates a working untethered jailbreak solution.

The French hacker going by the name of ThePod2g announced that he found a bug that could be used for the jailbreak about a month ago and now he and his team have already found a way to utilize it. Read more »

Serious Sam 3 pirated copies come with a nasty surprise, an invincible enemy doesn’t let you finish the game [VIDEO]

As far as anti-piracy measures go, this is probably the coolest trick we have ever seen. A version of Serious Sam 3 available for download in many torrent sites features an invincible mutant scorpion, which prevents unsanctioned users from completing the game.

The developers from Croteam deny any comment on the story, but rumor has it that the “special” edition of the game has been leaked on purpose. Read more »

Still sitting on the fence regarding the purchase of the Asus Transformer Prime? Well, this latest piece of info might just be enough to make you reach for your wallet. We just got the NenaMark 2 results that the slate achieved and we can confirm that it has the graphics power to match its impressive CPU.

No one really doubted the CPU power of the Tegra 3 chipset that the Transformer Prime uses – after all it uses the same architecture as the current crop of top-shelf smart devices and is adds a couple of extra cores. However, some were suspecting that the GPU didn’t get a sufficient enough update and the Transformer Prime might struggle with graphics performance. Read more »

Samsung Wave 3 S8600 battery life test is over, the scores are excellent

The new Bada flagship, Samsung Wave 3 S8600, is the next smartphone that we made jump through the fiery circles of our battery test. As this was the first Wave to take on our new test, we were quite interested to see how it would fare.

Coming with a 4″ WVGA screen, a 1.4GHz Scorpion CPU and a 1500 mAh battery, you would expect the Wave 3 to be no better than average. However, much to our amazement, it turned out to be the second best performer we have seen. Read more »

HP to release the second batch of $99 TouchPads on December 11

Unsurprisingly, the first HP TouchPad clearance sale enjoyed great interest, but the problem with it was that the limited stock only lasted for a few hours. Well, now HP is about to deliver a second batch of $99 TouchPad slates, so if you were left in the dry last time, now might be your chance to get a proper slate on the cheap

The second sale will take place on the HP eBay store and will begin at 6PM Central time on December 11 (that’s this Sunday). The 16GB version of the TouchPad will go for $99, while the 32GB model will cost $149, but there’s no saying how many units will be available. Read more »

Compact Flash Association unveils XQD card format, promises write speeds of over 125MB/s

The Compact Flash Association announced a new high-performance memory card format, called XQD. Based on the PCI Express specification, the new cards will measure 38.5×29.8×3.8mm at launch, which is slightly larger than SD cards (32x24x2.1mm) and tangibly more compact than CF cards (43x36x5 mm).

The XQD cards should allow write speeds of 125MB/s at launch, but they have a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 5Gbps (that’s 625MB/s), so there’s plenty of room for improvement in the future. Read more »

The popular developer of anti-virus applications for Windows Avast has just released its first mobile app. Dubbed avast! Mobile Security, it aims to keep your beloved smartphone safe and protected from all possible threats.

Nokia Maps 3D gets navigation, POIs and share through an update

Nokia just released a major update to their Nokia Maps 3D web app, adding several new features. The mapping software, which offers arguably the best photorealistic 3D view mode (albeit in a limited number of cities) now got local attractions, restaurants, and shops and navigation support.

ADW Launcher Ex updated, gets some ICS visuals and features

One of the most popular 3rd party launchers for Android devices got an update today, which brought a host of new features and some nice visual tune-ups. ADW Launcher Ex 1.3.3.5 comes with most of the eye-candy that you normally associate with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The update should allow the Launcher Ex to play nice with the host Ice Cream Sandwich smartphones and tablets, which are bound to come at the start of 2012. You get a new Dockbar, the option to create folders by dragging an app onto another on your homescreen and some new transition effects. Read more »

Chinese court denies Apple lawsuit, forbids it to use the iPad name in China

Apple has just suffered a setback in China as the Intermediate People’s Court in Shenzhen rejected its lawsuit regarding the iPad naming rights. Apple was suing the local Proview Technology for infringing its iPad trademark, but the outcome wasn’t in its favor.

According to the court order, Apple cannot use the iPad name in China, which might turn out to be quite a big deal as the company is aiming for a rapid expansion in the Chinese market. To make matters worse, Proview Technology, which registered the iPad trademark in 2000, is now suing the Cupertino-based electronics giant, seeking 10 billion Chinese yuan ($1.5 billion) in compensation. GTA III hitting Android and iOS on December 15, to cost $4.99

Rejoice, mobile gamers! Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition will be hitting Android and iOS smartphones and tablets next week. We got actual screenshots from the game, a list of compatible devices and even an exact pricing.

Firmware 4.00 for PlayStation 3 doesn’t close exploit, jailbreaking still an option

Sony recently released firmware 4.00 for its PlayStation 3 console, but some users have been hesitant to apply it as it was still uncertain if it patches the exploit used for the jailbreak. Well, now we know that’s not the case, thanks to a tweet by one of the popular hackers that work on the platform.

Facebook app for Android getting an update, dedicated Places app coming up next

Facebook is getting ready to refresh its arsenal on Android. The software engineers of the behemoth social network are putting the finishing touches on version 1.8 of the Facebook app for Android and there will be a whole new app coming to the Google platform in the near future.

The new version of the app brings slightly cleaner UI and should supposedly improve navigation, menu and search functionality. We should be hearing more about it in the near future, when it is expected to hit the Android Market. Read more »

DingleBerry rooting tool now publicly available, your PlayBook finds it gross

If your fingers have been itching ever since you read that story about the PlayBook jailbreak, you’d be glad to know that the tool is now publicly available. It’s still in beta and it keeps the unfortunate naming, but if you dare DingleBerry is fully capable of giving you root access on your PlayBook.

Right now, DingleBerry only supports Windows, but the Mac version is in the works and it should be coming out soon. Read more »
