Riding its unveiling spree of the new full-frame 5DS and 5DS R and its second ever mirrorless camera in the EOS M3 Canon is also announcing its midrange and upper-midrange DSLRs in the Rebel T6s and T6i (that’s 760D and 750D outside the US).
The two cameras come as successors to the Canon 700D and offer a higher resolution 24.2MP sensor (over the 18MP of old), a new Hybrid CMOS AF III, 19-point all cross-type AF system (probably borrowed from the Canon 70D), 7560px RGB+IR metering sensor as well as built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, which is the first for the Rebel series. Canon has launched the EOS M3, the successor to its first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the EOS M. The M3 features a brand new 24.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Canon’s latest DIGIC 6 image processor.
Other than that, there is also a new 49-point AF system with new Hybrid CMOS AF III, which is said to be 6.1x faster than the original EOS M, which had a notoriously slow autofocus system. Read more »
Canon has launched two new high-end DSLRs, called the EOS 5DS and the EOS 5DS R. The difference between the two cameras is that the former has a low-pass filter, which blurs the image slightly to reduce moire, while the 5DS R lacks it, resulting in sharper images at the cost of increased moire.
Both cameras have a 50.6 megapixel sensor, the highest for any Canon DSLR or for any full-frame DSLR. There’s also a 61 point AF system, with 41 cross-type AF points. Both cameras use the new DIGIC 6 image processor. Read more »
Swatch is officially getting ready to jump into the smartwatch game. According to Nick Hayek, the Swiss company’s CEO, Swatch will release its first smartwatch within the next three months. This will probably ensure that its offering will compete head-on with the Apple Watch, at least for headlines if nothing else – since they’re both due to be out at around the same time.
Swatch is looking to one-up Apple by creating a smartwatch that does not need to be charged. This intriguing prospect has unfortunately not been detailed further, but we assume the device may feature a battery that you simply swap out after a period of use – just like normal watches. Read more »
The Paper app for iPad, made by the folks at FiftyThree, has today gone 100% free. Previously, you were able to install the app without paying, but you had to shell out $0.99 for each of the following tools: Draw, Sketch, Outline, Write, Color, and Mixer.
From today on these become free, which essentially means you can use the whole app for free. The decision to stop charging for the tools in the app probably means FiftyThree now expects to make enough money to stay afloat simply from sales of its Pencil stylus. Read more »

The Lenovo S90 Sisley has a unibody contruction with a glass front, aluminum chassis and very little plastic and just looks premium. It’s curved design is also very pleasant to hold, not just behold. Read more »
Just as promised, the Sony SmartWatch 3 with a metal band starts selling in the UK from today.
Clove UK is the first store to offer the smartwatch. The price of the regular SmartWatch 3 is around the £180 ballpark, but its metal counterpart is slightly more expensive at. £ 215. Sony’s UK store as well as Amazon UK still haven’t listed pricing of the SmartWatch 3 with a metal band.
The smartwatch offers a 1.6″ transflective display with 320×320 pixel resolution. It’s waterproof with an IP68 rating and runs the latest version of Android Wear on a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and 512MB of RAM. In addition to Bluetooth 4.0, the connectivity suite is enhanced with NFC, too. The battery is 420 mAh and is rated to last 2 days with normal use.
Samsung’s latest mirrorless interchangeable lens camera is its most powerful yet. The NX500 employs the 28MP APS-C-sized sensor from the NX1 that’s capable of 6480 x 4320px stills and 3840 x 2160px (read 4K) video at 30fps.
The new camera features a retro design and a flip-out 3″ Super AMOLED screen that can rotate for seamless selfies and is touch-sensitive. The NX500 can capture 9 fps stills, its shutter can go as fast as 1/6000s and offers an ISO range of 100-25600 that’s expandable to 51200. Read more »
Asus has unveiled ZenPower 9600, a 9600mAh power bank capable of charging most smartphones 3-5 times. The device, which has a metal finish and squarish edges, contains three 3200mAh battery cells. This compares to Xiaomi’s 10,400 mAh power bank which contains four 2600mAH cells, making Asus’ offering lighter and more compact.
Compared to Xiaomi’s 9 layers of protection, Asus’ new portable battery charger comes with 11 layers of protection, and includes four LED indicators, full size USB outputs, and a micro USB input. Read more »
Sony’s lens style cameras (QX10 and QX100) seemed like oddball devices, but they are gaining popularity. The Olympus Air A01 takes a micro four thirds image sensor from the company’s OM-D and PEN cameras and puts it into a self-contained body that can be attached to and controlled by a smartphone.

Nearly a month after unveiling it at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Samsung has announced that it will be launching its SUHD TV series in South Korea this month. The premium range of Tizen-powered TVs will be available in four sizes – 55-inches, 65-inches, 78-inches, and 88-inches – with prices ranging from $5,000 to $7,250.
The curved TVs support 4K UHD resolution, and feature quantum-dot technology for improved color, as well as improved picture quality, something which Samsung claims it has achieved with an “intelligent re-mastering picture engine”. Read more »
Nearly three years after VideoLAN launched a beta version of the famous VLC media player for Android, the app is now available as a stable version in the Play Store.
What’s worth noting is that the beta version of the app is also available in Google Play as a separate listing, suggesting that any new features or improvements will be pushed out to the app first before being pulled over to the stable version. Read more »
Samsung will be selling the Galaxy VR headset through 100 Best Buy outlets across America. This will be the first time the Gear VR is sold offline, which was until now only sold through Samsung, AT&T, and Best Buy online stores.
Best Buy stores will also be getting demo units so people can try out the device before purchasing them. Other than that, it also lets the company get feedback on the product, and if it gets enough positive response it will expand it to more Best Buy stores, and vice-versa. Read more »

Sunrise is a free calendar application for iOS and Android. It featured an attractive interface design and synced with a wide variety of services such as Google calendar, iCloud, Microsoft Exchange and even Facebook for your events.
