One of the biggest competitors to Google’s Android Market is the controversially named Amazon Appstore. One of the main reasons for its popularity has been the free app that Amazon gives away everyday to users.
Unfortunately, so far the service has been limited to residents of the US. But not anymore, because it seems now the Appstore is expanding its reach to a wider customer base.
I know you are tired of all these rumors preceding the next iPhone release. Yet today some new information came up and it’s just too juicy and coming from too reputable source to be ignored.
According to a proprietary JP Morgan research, Apple will release not one but two smartphones this Fall, showing a China-oriented iPhone 4+ alongside the iPhone 5. Also, the next generation iPhone 5 with might not use the A5 chipset that’s powering the iPad 2, but the newly developed A6 SoC. A
A blurry shot of an unannounced Motorola slate just surfaced. The super-slim tablet appears to be sporting a screen much smaller than that of the Xoom .
It’s most probably measuring 7 or 8 inches in diagonal (unless the phone sitting next to it is some 5″ monster). The upcomming Motorola slate is running Android Honeycomb (but that’s hardly a surprise now) as you can see the Honeycomb camera app running if you look really carefully.
Street Fighter is coming to Android, thanks to a collaboration between LG and CAPCOM. LG’s CEO took the time to “HD” four times in four sentences, underlining “HD smartphone”.
Street Fighter IV will come to Android in the last quarter of this year and be exclusive to the LG’s own app store (LG World) for the first three months of its droid existence. There was no mention of its pricing, though.
AT&T’s brand new LTE network just launched and someone is already putting it to the test. We already got it pitted against the the other LTE network in the US, Verizon’s and the results confirm early indications that the network will be very fast – faster than Verizon’s LTE network even.
Of course, Verizon’s network is older and has a lot more users (that is, it’s under much more load), and yet AT&T’s network lead in both downlink and uplink speeds is impressive.
Millions this, millions that – the Angry Birds team are probably all patting each other on the back, celebrating passing 350 million downloads. The company’s General Manager Andrew Stalbow bragged about some other numbers – like people spending 300 million minutes each day on the popular bird-flinging game.
But it’s not just about the game anymore – the animated shorts Rovio has put up on YouTube (like this one) have gathered over 170 million views.
Despite all the Windows 8 demo videos that we saw over the past few days there still seem to be major features in the new OS that we don’t know about. Like telephony, for example. Yeap, Microsoft’s shiny new platform is likely going to support voice calls, which will make it suitable for voice-enabled tablets.
The information comes from the screenshot above, which features a missed calls pane in its Metro UI. And that could be used for some VoIP services, so you shouldn’t get all too enthusiastic about it just yet.
The long wait is almost over, then. Samsung’s sweet-looking Galaxy Tab 8.9 Honeycomb tablet will be going on sale in select BestBuy stores this Thursday. Reportedly, shipments have already arrived in the US and now we are just waiting for them to be distributed to stores around the country.
According to BestBuy some stores will have to wait until 25th to get their retail units, but the company didn’t specify which ones. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is currently listed at $399 on the seller’s official website, which sound like a great deal for the Tegra chipset and the 1280 x 800 PLS TFT screen.
As promised, AT&T flipped the 4G LTE switch on Sunday. This is not the first time you’ll be experiencing LTE on AT&T’s network, however, as certain areas in the US have been enjoying this for a while now. It’s just that now it’s official.
However, if you were expecting a lot more areas to get LTE after the official launch then you will be a bit disappointed as currently it’s only available in five states.
Being already one of the premier PC makers, it was only logical for Lenovo to take a shot at the quickly expanding market for Android tablets. This summer, the Chinese manufacturer released three different models, which include the IdeaPad K1, ThinkPad and IdeaPad A1, in an attempt to offer a droid tablet for every taste and budget. We managed to spend some quality time with the entire lineup of Lenovo slates, running the Google OS at an event in New York, and here are some fresh initial impressions for you.

Just a week after we had the pleasure to do unboxing of the latest BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900, today we have another RIM guest – the Torch 9860. It’s in a completely different category though – with that 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen it somehow suggests multimedia prowess rather than business.
Of course, RIM would never cheat on its traditions and it has left nothing out of the business and messaging departments.
The Xbox Live Arcade game Lore Runner X is coming to the Android OS. It launches exclusively on the Xperia PLAY and Sony Ericsson will make it available on some their other Xperia phones but I guess it will hit the Android Market soon or later.
Lore Runner X for Xperia PLAY has the same 3D graphics as its console sibling and will be controlled the well-known way, thanks to the hardware gaming controls.
Google is allegedly working on a social news reader app for both the iPad and Android, which should step on Flipboard’s toes – which, incidentally, is the app that’s named 2010 app of the year by Apple.
The rumor first emerged from a comment on Google+ by blogger Robert Scoble, who said that he’s “heard from someone working with Google that Google is working on a Flipboard competitor for both Android and iPad”.
