According to the folks at Engadget, who recently visited Samsung’s Korean headquarters, Samsung is considering adopting an open operating system for their cameras. And when we hear ‘open’, the first thing that comes to our minds these days is Android.
Now of course, Samsung could use any of the other open OSes out there. Two such examples are Samsung’s own Tizen and Bada. But practically speaking, Android makes the most sense right now. Read more »

Here’s a particularly exciting rumor for the ultrabook fans out there. The MacBook Air, which is where the whole ultra-light laptop revolution started, might be getting a 15″ version next month.
The spicy info comes from an unnamed vendor, who demonstrated his inability to keep a secret at a UK accessories expo held in London on Tuesday. Normally, we wouldn’t advise you to believe such sources, but the rumor aligns nicely with previous mentions of a 15″ MacBook Air from November. Read more »

Tizen – what became of MeeGo after Samsung took Nokia’s place in the project and also Bada’s replacement – kept a very low profile at the MWC, but it was there. A short video demo of the gallery shows that the new OS delivers a lot of eye candy even in this early stage of its development.
Earlier this year we saw some Tizen screenshots, but the traditional grid of thumbnails has given way to a less useful, but definitely prettier 3D arrangement. Read more »
The analysts from IDC just published their report on the global tablet market in the last quarter of last year and it appears that the picture was pretty much what we saw throughout 2011. Android is improving rapidly, but Apple’s iOS is still the king of the hill, accounting for more than half of all sales.
Apple managed to ship 15.4 million units in Q4 of last year, which secured them a market share of 54.7% (down from 61.5% in Q3). The best performer of the quarter was obviously the Amazon Kindle Fire, which got a share of 16.8% even though it was only on sale for a month and a half. Read more »
Oh, Firefox 10, we hardly knew ye. Also, 9. And 8. And 7, 6, 5 and 4. Thanks to the new rapid release cycle, Mozilla is just flying through the version numbers for Firefox. And so as expected, v11 has just been officially released.
So what’s new in this one? Quite a few things, actually. First of all, Firefox now recognizes Chrome if it is installed on your machine along with Opera and Internet Explorer and will ask you if you want to import bookmarks from it. If Mozilla intends to win back some of its old users from Chrome, this new feature is in the right direction to make the process of jumping over that much easier. Read more »

The likes of LG and Sharp were initially entrusted with creating displays for Apple’s newest tablet, set to touch down in a couple of days, but when they were unable to deliver due to manufacturing issues, Apple passed the task to Samsung who will now be producing the new iPad’s QXGA display panels (for the time being at least).
