Samsung has released three new ads for the Galaxy S III in the US. After making fun of iPhone buyers ad nauseam in the previous ads, these new ads actually concentrate on the phone itself and its key features.

There are three ads in total, with each one focusing on the big screen, the Music Hub and the S Beam NFC sharing features respectively. The ads are short, to the point and have a good dose of humor, everything that you expect from a great ad. You can find them all below. Read more »

If you’ve used the Twitter client Tweetie or the official Twitter apps for iOS, Android and OS X, you have one person to thank for them: Loren Brichter. These apps were so good that Twitter acquired him and his apps and since then he made the Twitter apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and OS X.

Last year, Brichter left Twitter to continue working for his own company, Atebits. He has been secretly working on his own app since then and yesterday it was finally released on iOS. Say hello to Letterpress. Read more »

The iPad mini software is designed to ignore your thumb resting on the display

by 63 comments

When Apple announced the iPad mini, one of the things I noticed was how thin the bezel is on the side. The iPad has a sizable bezel all around its display and Apple’s reason for that was to be able to hold the device without touching the screen. So why did they make the bezel so thin on the iPad mini?

At first glance it seems like a major design gaffe but turns out, it’s not. Because the bezel on the iPad mini is so thin on the sides, the software has been designed to ignore your thumb even if you rest it directly on the display. Read more »

LG Optimus G battery tests are done, here are the results

by 67 comments

The LG Optimus G is the first phone with the monster Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset that we’ve reviewed, so we’re very curios to see how battery efficient it is. Four powerful cores can be a blessing (get the job done quicker, go to sleep quicker) or a curse (burn more energy, even if the job takes less time than on slower cores).

So, which is it? The battery has 2100mAh capacity, which is exactly as much as the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X+ have, so the Optimus G can’t rely on that to gain advantage. Read more »

Yesterday, Apple announced the new iPad mini but along with that also introduced a fourth generation iPad, just eight months after the third generation model was announced earlier this year. And it’s not a small update, either. The fourth generation model comes with a faster A6X processor that doubles the CPU and GPU power, faster wireless connectivity and the new Lighting port.

Naturally, if you bought the third generation model recently, you’d be feeling a bit jelly. But if you happened to have purchased that model in the past 30 days, you just might be in luck. Read more »
