Microsoft has released an app that enables you to make backup of all your contacts and messages and store it in your phone’s SD card. Appropriately dubbed contacts+message backup, the app is compatible with Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
After installation, you can access the app by heading to Settings on your phone – it doesn’t appear in your regular list of installed apps. The backup it creates is stored in a folder named backup+restore. Read more »
Less than a week after it was rolled out to iPhone users, the WhatsApp voice calling feature has been officially made available to all BlackBerry 10 users, too. The update is currently live, and is available through BlackBerry World.
The update, which bumps the application to version 2.12.1.2, also includes several other bug fixes and improvements, including the ability to instantly search for individual messages (as well as chats and contacts), improved font scaling, and custom ringtone selection. Read more »
BitTorrent, the company behind the technology of the same name that allows for peer-to-peer transfer of files, has laid off a significant number of its employees in the US, according to a Buzzfeed report.
As per the report, the company has sacked about 40 of its approximately 150 domestic employees. Those who were laid off said the step was taken as BitTorrent is streamlining its resources to focus more on Sync, a peer-to-peer storage service based on the company’s file-sharing technology. Just over a month after chairman Eric Schmidt made it clear that Google isn’t giving up on Google Glass, Massimo Vian, CEO of Italian eyewear manufacturer Luxottica, has said that the next iteration of the high-tech eyewear is coming out soon.
Speaking at the company’s general meeting in Milan, Italy, Vian also revealed that while the version 2.0 is currently being worked on, version 3.0 is also in the planning stages. “In Google, there are some second thoughts on how to interpret version 3 [of the eyewear],” he said. “What you saw was version 1. The leather back cover of the upcoming LG G4 will be a bona fide luxury item. LG revealed that the 100% vegetable-tanned hide on the back of its flagship smartphone takes up to twelve weeks to process.

The LG Watch Urbane, which was unveiled back in February this year and showcased during the MWC 2015 in Barcelona, carries a price tag of $365 in South Korea, which is $30 more than the price of the Watch R. The wearable goes on sale in the country today.
In terms of specifications, the smartwatch is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1.2GHz CPU, and sports a 1.3” P-OLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. It comes with 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal memory, and packs in a 410mAh battery. Twitter has introduced a new feature which the company claims allows you to catch up with the stuff that is most relevant to you. Dubbed Highlights, the feature offers a twice-daily digest of the best Tweets, which are delivered to you via push notification.

Today Google has started rolling out a new version of its note-taking app, Keep. The main new feature inside this release is support for Android Wear. So, in other words, you can now use Google Keep on your Android Wear-running smartwatch.
A note-taking app is obviously a good fit for your wrist – not only for quickly creating new notes, but also for viewing the ones you’ve already added from your phone or tablet. As we told you a few weeks ago, the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is now up for pre-order in Japan. If you’re in the US, though, you only have to wait until tomorrow to get in your pre-order. Samsung has officially announced that starting on April 24, Best Buy will have the virtual reality headset available for pre-order for interested customers.
The Gear VR Innovator Edition will be in stock on May 8, both at Best Buy and at Samsung’s own online store for the US. In-store availability will follow on May 15. Read more »
