The time for the iPhone 6 teardown is now upon us and we get to see the phone’s innards for the first time. As per usual, it is done by the professionals over at iFixit, who have rated the phone 7/10 for repairability, just like its biger brother.

Google follows Apple’s suit, lays out its own user privacy plans for Android

In lieu of Apple’s detailed commitment to user privacy, Google followed suit by laying out its own plans for handling the matter. The search giant will begin encrypting user data by default starting with the next major mobile OS release, currently known as Android L.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 now available at Verizon with 4G LTE

Verizon has started selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 today. The tablet is being offered with built-in 4G LTE connectivity, as you’d expect. It’s already up for grabs at the carrier online, as well as in brick and mortar stores.

For a limited time, if you get it with a two-year data contract you’ll only need to pay $499.99. Otherwise, the full price of the Tab S is $599.99. You can also use Verizon’s Edge installment plan to pick up the tablet. In this case, you don’t pay anything upfront, but then you have to make 20 monthly payments of $29.99. Read more »

Samsung 20nm 6Gb mobile DRAM enters mass production

Samsung announced earlier today it has began mass producing its latest 6Gb LPDDR3 mobile DRAM chips. They’re made using the 20nm manufacturing process and are designed with high performance smartphones and tablets in mind by achieving data transfer rates of up to 2,133Mbps.

A 3GB LPDDR3 package can now be made using four 6Gb LPDDR3 chips is 20% smaller and consumes 10% less energy than existing 3GB packages such as the one found in the Galaxy Note 4. Read more »

Apple got caught Photoshoping out a blemish on its new iPhone 6 – the pesky camera bump – but it’s not the only company that has taken some artistic liberties with promotional images. Samsung touched up the Galaxy Alpha in one of its images too.

Amazon has announced a special Kids Edition of the Kindle Fire HD. This is essentially the newly announced Kindle Fire HD in 6-inch and 7-inch sizes but with a special rubber case around it to prevent it from being damaged.

You can now run almost all Android apps on Chrome OS

A week ago, Google unveiled the Chrome OS support for certain Android apps. Now, thanks to a custom tool for Chrome OS, you can install any Android app you like, not just a select few.

Called chrome-apk, the tool requires a bit of tinkering to install, but is well worth it if you don’t have the intention to wait for Google to promote the the new Chrome OS App Runtime out of beta. Read more »

Apple removes all HealthKit compatible apps from the App Store

A bug in the HealthKit suite is forcing Apple to remove all apps using the framework from the App Store. The HealtKit enabled apps were supposed to launch with iOS 8 today, but this is postponed indefinitely.

Amazon announces new Kindle Voyage for $199 and new Kindle for $79

Amazon has announced two new models of its popular e-reader, an updated version of their standard Kindle, now with a touchscreen, and a brand new Kindle Voyage.

The Kindle Voyage is the seventh generation model in the Kindle series. The latest version features an updated Paperwhite display, which has a higher resolution and a pixel density of 300PPI.
