7-inch Panasonic Toughpad FZ-B2 rugged tablet gets official

Complementing the two 5-inch tablets it announced back in June, Panasonic has today unveiled the Toughpad FZ-B2. This is a 7-inch extremely rugged tablet that is “designed for business”.

It will become available in Europe in December. In the UK, it will be priced at £591 + VAT, which means £709 inclusive of VAT. It should land in the US in February 2015 for $1,299. Read more »

Project Ara update video announces DevCon2 conference

Google released a Project Ara update video announcing the second developer conference for the platform will take place on January 14. There, registered developers will discus the Ara MDK 0.20 as well as have access to early modules and prototypes.

YouTube planning on subscriptions for music videos, ad free streaming

YouTube is planning on introducing subscription models for music videos and ad-free browsing. The company CEO Susan Wojcicki confirmed in an interview with Re/code that the team is “working on it”.

We had seen traces of a subscription model in a leaked YouTube app earlier but since then haven’t heard much about it. Fortunately, the idea hasn’t been dropped and YouTube will be introducing it at a later date. There could be different price points for the subscriptions, based on what Wojcicki said. Read more »

Google Fit has arrived in the Play Store. The app is meant to be the central repository for all your fitness-related data. It automatically detects whether you’re walking, biking, or running.

It lets you set and monitor fitness goals based on your activity levels, and it can be connected to other apps too – Strava, Withings, Runtastic, Runkeeper, and Noom Coach being name dropped by Google in its official announcement. Read more »

Sony has announced that the first of its kind Xperia Aquatech Store is near completion and is set to debut off the coast of Dubai on December 3. The shop will offer its customers the chance to go test the latest Sony smartphones, tablets and accessories under water.

Fitbit has announced three new fitness bands to replace its current Fitbit Force. The new range includes the Fitbit Charge, Charge HR, and the Surge.

The Fitbit Charge is the base model and is priced at $129 and tracks basic information, such as steps taken, distance travelled, sleeping pattern, etc. It features an improved design that is less irritating on the skin than the Force. The device pairs with your smartphone and syncs the information with the Fitbit app, and also shows caller information on the OLED display. The Charge has a battery life of 7 days. Read more »
