Google Play Movies & TV app for Android gets Material Design and info cards

Today Google has announced a new update for its Play Movies & TV app for Android. The new version of the app will roll out over the next week, and will bring with it a couple of important new features.

First off, like all of the recently updated apps made by Google, Play Movies & TV will get a do-over inspired by the company’s own Material Design guidelines.

So expect to see bigger images and smoother transitions all-round. The Watch Now tab gets more movie recommendations, and you’ll be able to watch trailers directly inside the app.

Play Movies & TV will also show you info cards about actors or soundtracks while you’re casting a movie or TV show to your TV using either the Chromecast or the new Nexus Player. These cards will show up on the device you’re casting from – so your phone or tablet. They will appear while the movie or show is playing on your TV, giving you extra information about it. Movies and TV shows that have this feature enabled will have an Info Cards badge next to their listing in the Play Store.
