New leaked screenshots of what’s reportedly the upcoming Nokia Windows Phone 8.1 firmware have leaked. One of them suggests the firmware is going to be called Cherry Pink Blossom. Considering the previous two were also named after colors – Lumia and Black – that’s not too surprising.

It was going to happen eventually, but somewhat surprisingly it has happened before the actual market launch. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has undergone the teardown treatment. This time though, it wasn’t executed by iFixit, but Russian tech site Ferra.

Nevertheless, the teardown revealed all of the Galaxy S5′s internals. According to the person that did the teardown, the screen is quite tricky to remove and you have to heat the phone quite a bit in order to get the glue holding the display to melt and let go. Read more »

A couple of days ago, we reported that the Asian version of the HTC One (M8) with a 2.5GHz MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 processor crushed the competition in the AnTuTu 4 benchmark. However, the triumph of the One (M8) may be short-lived, as it may turn out that the phone is cheating.

The reason for the eyebrow raising is AnTuTu X – an alternative version to AnTuTu 4 specially designed to prevent devices from cheating. The HTC One received the lowest ever repairability score that iFixit has ever given a smartphone – 1/10. So, how did the new One (M8) do? it’s a massive improvement as the score has doubled to… well, 2/10.

Today marked the unveiling of another of this year’s anticipated smartphone flagship announcements, the HTC One (M8). At today’s launch, HTC hailed the device as their best smartphone ever, and it’s truly a beauty to behold with its full metal chassis and slick design. But does it have what it takes to hold its own against the other upcoming flagship-grade competition?

The new HTC M8 sports a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset running at 2.3 GHz, with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. This is very similar to what powers the Xperia Z2, except the Sony device has an additional 1GB of RAM. The Galaxy S5 also runs on a Snapdragon 801 chip, but is clocked higher than both devices at 2.5 GHz. Read more »

Last year, the original HTC One (M7) caused a stir in the Android community with its stunning looks, Ultra Pixel camera, front-facing speakers and high pixel density display. Making a successor that carries the torch from such an impressive device is hard, but HTC has no other option but to try. The HTC One (M8) features a slightly bigger battery than its predecessor (2,600mAh vs. 2,300mAh) and an Extreme Power Saving Mode. That’s only for when you really need to stretch the last few percent though, otherwise it would be a shame to limit the speedy Snapdragon 801 chipset.

Note that for this test we didn’t use the power saving mode – we’re aiming to replicate regular daily usage and these modes limit the phone’s features and performance. Read more »

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has an IP67 certification, which officially means “dust tight” and surviving up to 30 minutes at 1m underwater. That seems a little abstract, it’s much better to see the device actually make the dive.
